Colin E. Pyle on SoundBetter

If you need help with lyrics or musical accompaniments than I could be the person you need. I have written, played, recorded and produced all my own albums and now I'm ready to help other songwriters.

I have been writing lyrics and creating songs for over 30 years and have recently started to release many of my songs. My artist name is 'The Lost Connection'. I am not a top producer or vocalist, but I am a registered songwriter.

Working with Colin was easy and enjoyable. I liked his song and he always provided the material quickly, giving me advice and being open to my suggestions about the song.
I would surely collaborate again with him in the future because he's professional and willing.
    5 stars!

Interview with Colin E. Pyle

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: The album I released at the end of 2020 ('2020 Vision') was a year long project that slowly developed and evolved into a very conceptual album. The production was the best I could manage in the time I had. The vocal levels could have been louder (I am told) but I am very pleased with the finished result.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am on a sync-writing course until the end of March and collaborating with cohorts on various ideas and briefs. I am also creating new ideas on my own.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I have only hired one singer in the past. LuZ is her name, and is featured on a song I released and is included in my profile.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Analog for authenticity and digital for stereo production quality.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I will complete every task to the best of my ability as long as it takes (but hopefully asap).

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I can do what comes natural and help others with the same passion.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Who do you compare yourself to? My answer is, "I don't know".

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That I am wasting my time.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Are you registered with a PRO? Do you mind splitting royalties on co-writes?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: If you want your ideas to come to life at a very cheap price and on a friendly level than get in touch.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Synthesizer, laptop, interface, microphone and headphones.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: My employment history doesn't involve music up until now. I have created music as a past-time for decades and was in a rock band and contributed to one and a half of the albums that they released. In the last year I have released 8 albums containing amateur recordings as a recording artist and am now a registered songwritier and operate as a freelance songwriter as from 2021.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: I write Prog-Pop music with Rock and 80's and 90's influences, but am very alternative in every style.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Ollie Murs

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Make sure you record at a reasonable level before the master production.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I work with early developments on basic piano level initially (but I am not a professional pianist).

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: I am essentially a lyricist, but creating chord structure and full accompaniments is probably my best contribution which I can offer to others.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I can create the chords, structiure, top-line, drum beats, bass and all other necessary accompaniments using synthesizer technology. MIDI can also be used, but something I haven't dealt with much on the past.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Discuss the client's needs and then create the song accordingly. Once a basic version has been recorded I will share the result. If the client is happy I will then discuss further steps required if necessary.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I record in my home with standard equipment. Will be moving from a mid-terraced house to a detached bungalow soon.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I am very diverse in terms of the style of music in which I create. Inspiration comes from Rock, Psychedelic Pop, Motown, Classical and Singer/Songwriter styles. I am not a professional producer, so I look up to all producers in the music industry.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Up until now I have worked on my own mainly. Recently I have started to collaborate/co-write lyrics and music arrangements/accompaniments
