I'm a young (20 yr) and enthusiast singer/songwriter and vocal editor working hard to chase her dream.
Recording, vocal editing (melodyne), producing (Ableton 10 / Cubase), songwriting, fluent English.
I can record medium quality demos at home, but I have access to professional recording studios.
I play acoustic guitar (strummed) and I'm able to sing with it. I play basic piano.too, just for songwriting purposes.
Pop is the most natural thing for me, I'm able to give a pop touch to anything.
HOW DID I GET HERE?
I've been making music for 9 year now. I started by singing and playing guitar at the age of 12 in my school courses and in few months I quickly found myself on tv as a contestant in an italian kids talent show called "Io Canto" and I did it for 2 years; almost by accident my journey with music started in the best way. I soon after started playing many gigs all over italy and in the meanwhile I started writing my own music. At 17 I did The Voice If Italy getting to the Live Shows. The year after I went to a prestigious songwriting school in Itay (C.E.T - Centro Europeo di Toscolano) and then I realized I wanted to become a songwriter. I moved out 2 years ago to chase my dream and make a living with songwriting. I'm currently based in Milan and I have a small but useful home studio. My dream is to move out of Italy in 2 years.

Interview with Alessia Labate
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Working on my project with my mentor and producer introduced me to the world of music production and arrengement. We did the whole production together, I started building my vision and my skills. You can find few tracks in my soundcloud set link (they're still unreleased)
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: My project and I'm working with few amazing producers
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I just signed up, I'm sorry
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Analog is warmer, digital is more defined.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: A good quality job that makes both of us happy and satisfied
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The wider the emotions, the better the songs. I can be creative, free, ispiring, positive but being able to adress and process bad feelings and experiences too. I love the possibility to work everywhere and whenever I want.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: What's my gear, how long I need to finish a track (it depends on deadlines and on the song itself), how I learned English (through school, analyzing lyrics and few experiences abroad).
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I try to make unique melodies still keeping it trendy and pop but sometimes it's not appreciated. When clients give me references I try to preserve the main features of the melody/lyrics they like but I give my personal touch.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask for the information they do not give me.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Choose a provider who is able to meet your expectations.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Computer, a headphones set, a guitar, ROLI seaboard, and a USB microphone
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started 9 years ago doing an italian tv talent show, I played many gigs all over Italy, at 17 I did The Voice of Italy, at 18 I did a songwriting school and started producing. I've been working for other people for almost 2 years.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Pop, delicate and edgy.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: My dream artist is Tove Lo.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Work with the good stuff you already have.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop, EDM, Future Pop, Future Bass, Synth Pop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Vocal skills and melodies.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: a pop, girly, honest and intimate touch.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Before sitting at the computer I need the client to tell me what he/she wants in the most precise way possible. When the creative process starts I open a blank Ableton project and start singing and recording in loop slowly building the melody. I send a draft melody to the client, if he likes it I do some more work on and then I start writing the lyrics. I like working step by step and have feedbacks from the client to make sure I'm doing what it takes to meet the client's expectation.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My home studio setup is not the best in this world, but it works really well for writing melodies and recording raw demos. I own a tascam US 2x2, an AKG perception 120 mic, a set of AKG K271 MKII headphones, a ROLI seablock and a KORG minikey keyboard. My computer is a hp custom made pc. Everytime I have spare money I invest them in upgrading my setup
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: They inspire me to get better and better every time I do something new, I learn really fast and I try to learn as much as I can from every pro that I meet.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I usually am hired as topliner: I write the topline melody, the lyrics, I perform the song and I do my own vocal tuning and harmony arrangement. I also do a basic vocal mixing.
