Interview with Kenji Anorve

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: Country Music Record.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Both . One time I was piloting an Analog IIIP machine and suddenly the all the systems went to hell, I was going down...the client was waiting, flipped red switch> Digital systems ON. Systems ONLINE. >Song delivered. Sometimes you don't have another Modular MOOG IIIP sitting around you know?

  5. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  6. A: Thats a sick beat! how did you do that? Experimenting.

  7. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  8. A: Go with your gut. Always.

  9. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  10. A: Lets say that we have power in that desert island. Mellotron Octatrack Microphone. Rytm and Dave Smith.

  11. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  12. A: I would love to work with Tyler the Creator.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: I'm currently producing an EP for a country Artist. I know that this sounds crazy but we are curios of what happens when country music meets alternative music.

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: I'm a very dedicated music producer, I like to be up to date in production and mixing techniques. I'm always looking for the next challenge.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: When producing a song I always start with a piano track or a guitar. It doesn't matter fo the song doesn't include a piano, I like to know what exactly is happening with the chord progressions, arrangements etc.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: I use Ableton as my main DAW. I like the flexibility and the inspiration that brings on to my set up. I love analog synthesis, so I have different synths in my Studio. Moog, Korg, Dave Smith Prophet 08 is my favorite synth right now. I also have a Mellotron MD 4000, with is a digital synth but I really like the samples that come with the machine. My main Monitors are a pair of Genelcs 8030c and my secondary monitors are a pair of avantone. I also have an Analog Tape Machine in the studio.

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: Scotty Hard was an amazing teacher. Working at his studio gave me the knowledge that I need it to become more confident in my work. I have very good friends who are doing also amazing work. Some of my heroes include Thom Yorke, Bjork, Geoff Barrow.

  23. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  24. A: I always level my track before using a compressor.

  25. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  26. A: Style,Passion.

  27. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  28. A: Most of the work I'm doing right now in my studio is Tracking, Mixing and producing. Covid-19 has changed the way I work, now everything is done remotely

  29. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  30. A: Enough chatting ! Lets go to work.

  31. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  32. A: This guy Direckt of Fast Life: https://soundbetter.com/profiles/1746-direckt-of-fast-life-beats He mixed some tracks for me in the past.

  33. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  34. A: I will work my ass off.

  35. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  36. A: How difficult it is and people think that you are just sitting there doing nothing.

  37. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  38. A: you are not a successful producer if you don't have a hit. Do what you do because you love it. Yes yes yes you need to eat too, but trust me music will pay off if you work hard.

  39. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  40. A: How fast ? How much space do I have to build? Where is this song coming from?

  41. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  43. Q: How would you describe your style?
