Laurynas Vytas on SoundBetter

Professional Sound Design and music production for film/media branding/games/commercials and TV. BSc in music/MA degree in sound for media. I respond quickly and make my clients an absolute priority. Every new project is a challenge to the inventiveness, originality and imagery of the mind, a new story for the sound to tell. Lets get to work!

Our team the opportunity to take up various roles in different projects, from Sound recordists to composing, from Foley art to sound design which gives us a good perspective on how the different departments rely on each other. It was clear that communication and enthusiasm were the two driving things that make a good project and a good team.
We have experience working with Voice Overs, Commercial Sound, Short movies (Foley. Sound design and composition) as well as game sound and mixing.
So far, the most exciting part of working with a collective is creative resources. It takes a collaboration to create something astonishing that will immerse the spectator/listener and leave a memorable experience. Different ideas, but the same vision, long and tiring hours with a purpose – these are the things that we cherish most at FOH.

Interview with Laurynas Vytas

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I had the pleasure creating audiobranding for Sales Force. It was an incredible journey from which i learnt alot and hope that in time i will have the chance to work with them again! (I did Sound design)

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Audiobooks, a couple of promos (Working with SFX) and an album!

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Jake McCormack, Andrius mackevicius, Gabriele Griciute.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both are fine as long as you have something to say and understand what you are doing.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I love bringing visual content to life. When something syncs and transfers the needed emotion correctly I start smiling straight away and it's just a feeling I try to have as often as possible! I enjoy the fact that every project is different and the best bit is when the client appreciates what you have created

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: 1. When can the project be completed? - The projects will always meet the given deadline, no exceptions. So it is completely up to you. 2. How much this will cost? - Everything depends on the complexity, lenght, delivery time.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: Usually, people think its just snip snap and done, well it is not! haha! it takes the same amount of time as everything else. if you want quality that will take time because ideas come in time and so does quality audio.

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: Simply to have a reference and an idea which you can relate to. Spare no details, if a projects is well defined the process tends to be smoother and quicker! dont feel awkard when trying to express your idea with wierd emotional keywords, anything goes when trying to explain your idea.

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: A handheld recorder, guitar, condenser microphone, laptop and an audio interface. I guess.... haha!

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I have been working as an audio professional for over 9 years now. I started mostly with live sound, being an artist until I got involved with studios and a bigger variety of projects. every project was an opportunity to learn. Today, I believe that sound design and audio editing are my two strenghts, but music production is not far off.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: Melancholic, cinematic, dramatic and sometimes simple, minimalistic.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: Jeez, probably with any musicians that have something to say and our styles meet. in this industry its 50% about meeting new people and 50% about creating. atleast for me meeting new people , jamming and getting to know fellow creators is top 3 reasons why I became a sound proffesional.

  25. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  26. A: My strongest skill is cinematic sound design and dialogue editing/audio restoration. I have experience working with bigger movies where I took up the role of foley artist and sound designer and I have cleaned, mixed over 40 audio books which is around 400 hours of dialogue editing/sync/restoration. In addition, I'm quite the gamer and have loads of knowledge when it comes to game sound design, voice overs and foley. Overall I think i'm best at understanding what the client wants and being able to relate and get into the feel of the project which in my opinion is one of the most important aspects when trying to create something memorable.

  27. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  28. A: I believe that my clients could answer this question in more detail haha. But I want to believe that i bring soul, progressive harmonies and something that can challenge the listener.

  29. Q: What's your typical work process?

  30. A: It all depends on what the client wants, how he wants it and when he wants it. At the beggining i try to be as clear as possible on the overall process of the work that is going to be done. gather references, ideas, direction. If needed have a spotting session with the client to talk about every detail seperately and after that I get creative.

  31. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  32. A: A studio is where you are. doesn't matter the gear if the producer has nothing to say. I use an i9 9900K PC, a 3rd gen Focusrite audio interface, ADAM Monitors, ART analogue compressor, Rode NT2 microphone for vocals and the most important bit - my imagination and your direction.

  33. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  34. A: James Blake, Thom Yorke, Gorrilaz, Fleetwood Mac, Butch Vig, Knower, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, RHCP, Atoms for Peace, snarky puppy

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  36. A: Usually I am hired to create SFX packs, sound design for promo videos and audio branding ( a collection of sounds that represent a certain brand or company, in other words , a unique sonic world ). Other work i do is audio restoration and dialogue editing.

  37. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  38. A: I usually work on Piano pop, rock and lofi hip-hop.

  39. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  40. A: What is the vision of the project? What is the message? When is the deadline?

  41. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
