Interview with Pablo Jordan Rodriguez
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: "Ahh so you're a DJ?"
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What songs would you like your project to sound like? What inspired your creative process for the project? How much do you know about mixing and mastering? Do you have any sound characteristics that you want to achieve in certain instruments?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Search engineers that connect with you in a better way than just seller-buyer type relationship... they are working with your artistic emotions and creations. Nowadays the amount of competition in this industry has brought up a type of engineers that work like mass production factories.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: My interest in the industry dates back to when I was about 13/14 years old. At that age I started recording my own songs with a very simple set up and during those years I realised that I really enjoyed recording and editing music. The years that followed were filled with friends recording at my house and those friends ended up spreading the word... without realising I was already having actual clients at the age of 16/17.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Organised perfectionist
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: If your track is lacking some thickness in the low-end you can try some low-passed parallel saturation of the whole thing.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: During my early years I worked a lot with rap and trap artists. Lately I've been mixing indie rock, synth pop and similar genres.
