I have watched Azpyn grow as an artist, producer, and engineer over the last several years. Being a friend of mine, he has always encouraged me in my musical passions and has produced beats, and mixed songs for me. He is great and will always treat you with respect and professionalism. Very happy with how he handles himself and his work ethic. He wouldn’t let a client down!

As a personal friend and also someone who has the chance to work with Azpyn I can certainly say his work style and flow breathe professionalism without being overly cocky or arrogant. Through working with you as a client you will have the chance to see his passion for music come through, I hope both you and Azpyn enjoy the process of working together and hopefully both of you will continue to grow and strive for what you love in life.

Interview with AZPYN

  1. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  2. A: Find someone that is both passionate and knowledgeable and has experience in engineering.

  3. Q: What's your typical work process?

  4. A: First, I find out what the client wants in terms of what they want their project to sound like. I'll have them send me the stems so I can get started on the Mix in Pro Tools or Logic. Once I'm done with mix ill take it over to Izotope 8 to start Mastering. Mixing and Mastering typically takes me 1-2 days depending on the content.

  5. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  6. A: Who are inspirations for what you want your track to sound like?

  7. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  8. A: I'm inspired a lot by Mac Miller and his ability to produce, write, and just overall create. Same goes for Kanye West.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: A professionally mixed and mastered song or album that I know you'll love.

  11. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  12. A: Mixing vocals and beats is definitely my strong suit as well as producing beats.

  13. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  14. A: Digital because of the efficiency and convenience. You can get great sounding mixes with both.

  15. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  16. A: Being able to be apart of someone else's creative process and figuring out the best way to represent the vision of the artist.

  17. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  18. A: That there are strict rules to engineering. If it sounds good it is good.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: All I need is a laptop, an interface, something to monitor with, a mic and I'll be good.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: Clean with some edge.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've been doing this for about 5 years. During this time, I attended the Conservatory Of Recording Arts Sciences to really sharpen my skills.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: I would really like to work with Yung Lean because of his creative and spacey sound. It would be a lot of fun creating a mix using his vision.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: If your mix sounds muddy, try removing some low end you don't need form certain instruments this will result in a much cleaner sound.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: I usually work on Hip-Hop/Rap music but am not limited to it.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: I bring both clarity and character to a song.

  33. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  34. A: I work on an iMac and use DAWS such as Pro Tools, Logic, and FL Studio. I have two Yamaha HS8 monitors which give me an accurate representation of what I'm mixing along with my sonar works reference 4 software and Yamaha MT7 headphones. The interface I use is an Apollo Twin MKII Duo and I have a Neumann TLM 102 I use when recording vocals. Lastly, my room has a variety of acoustic treatment including absorption, diffusion, and bass traps.

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  36. A: I mix and master Hip-Hop/Rap tracks from the vocals to the stems of the beat.
