Interview with Elle R.

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I'm super proud to have written and released this latest single called "Gold for Water". Cause it reminds me of Jamaica, which I am finally visiting after years of promising my family I would.

  3. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  4. A: Ed Sheeran because he looks like someone I'd like to create with and hang out with.

  5. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  6. A: I love all of Stevie Wonder's albums, and I really like the way Ed Sheeran approaches songwriting.

  7. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  8. A: I work a lot with briefs for pop artists, or I am hired to create a song for a commercial brand (clothing, perfume, lights, food...)

  9. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  10. A: I'm co-writing with a couple of artists from the UK.

  11. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  12. A: You'll be happy with what I deliver. And if it's something I don't think I can deliver, I can refer you to someone else.

  13. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  14. A: Creating something new.

  15. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  16. A: Question: When can it be delivered? My answer: When do you need it?

  17. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  18. A: That if I'm a professional I should be able to write faster, and it should be a hit every time. I did develop processes and tricks that help me craft quickly. My good songs were based on ideas. Some I found in 10 min and others in 10 hours.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: If you like what you see and hear then try it out! If you already have a vision in mind, give examples of similar ideas that exist out there and give as much information as possible so we can deliver a great piece of work you like, and that is in line with what you imagined.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: My mic, my laptop, my phone, my audio interface, and a huge ass battery charger.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've been songwriting since 2009, and working professionally since 2012 with production houses.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Creative

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: Pop

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: Toppling writing. I'm very strong with finding several melodic ideas.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: My perspective.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: Since we have hired me for toplines more then anything else, I usually start with finding the mood, the melodies and rhythm patterns that gels and feels good, and then start crafting the lyrics with the vibe I got from what I composed melodically.

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: I have a vocal booth with my equipment and a creative room with my guitar and my keys.
