Interview with Mixing Your Way
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Everything...working with people who aren't afraid to dream big- The world needs more dreamers... "Eddie & the Cruisers"
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Let me just say this, Many of the great songs of today were created from "mistakes"... Music is a passion and in many ways, a responsibility of who you are as an artist... When something comes from inside you, what could be better than that?
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I usually ask them for the story behind the song, how they felt when writing the piece, how they want others to feel when they hear your song...that is very important to me personally because honestly without that, what's the point?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I love music and I don't like to brag-Listen to my page demo and give me a shot and let's create a great sound for your music...
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My laptop with a very powerful wifi adapter (laughs), A cell phone for taking pictures, maybe an equipment case or two for "you never know" small cocktail kit and find a mountain to play on and make my own sake(haha) and an old tape player with plenty of cassette tapes to record myself talking to my own version of "wilson" I guess...(laughs)
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Began as a professional at a young age, a prodigy- My first show was with the legend Johnny Cash at the Clayton Arena when I was just 12 years old, so 35 years experience. Toured with Plane Jane for 5 1/2 years before changing directions to focus on family- no regrets, some great memories... My path? Well, I would love to get into writing for sound tracks, many of my fans tell me my music would be great for movies...
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: There are a few, the three I have listed in my "sounds like" profile respectfully... if you have a passion for what you do, then I am happy to show you what I can bring to the table and offer you...
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: My main focus during the mixing stage is the automation process, setting the levels of each instrument respectfully, perfecting the overall quality of each sound for better functionality throughout the whole mix...
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: My experience is with digital, it's always changing and very flexible...
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I give my best in everything I do, your project deserves my full attention and that's exactly what you get. I am someone who will walk up to you, look you in the eye and shake you hand. People really don't do that anymore, old school I like to call it, something I learned from my father...
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Most questions revolve around mixing, mastering, panning, stage gaining etc... My Answer? Do research, knowledge is power- set the bar high and make plans on reaching that goes, take it step by step and don't be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone and try something new- make mistakes because sometimes making a mistake will create something amazing that's worth saving...
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style based is based on everyone I grew up listening to,so I owe those artists many thanks for making me the passionate artist I am today...
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: There is so much power in the mind, There is no better feeling that having something inside you come out in a song that you have written- there is no greater feeling of accomplishment. My new song "See You in Heaven" is absolutely beautiful and it's a very emotional song for me personally...
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Everyday brings something new, you never know what tomorrow will bring so I spend most of my time researching for new technologies or enhancements to bring a better overall product to myself with my music and also with my clients...
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I've met a few on here, they all have something to bring to the table. You don't need a Grammy to be good at something you love, "award winner" Grammy" is a great honor, being in the right place at the right time is key but even thought "awards" are nice, it's all about the music and the people...
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Do your own research,be creative and take risks, create your own procedures- There is no right way or wrong way to do something and that's what makes music such a powerful force...
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Most of the time, I work on Pop,Rock,Country or just instrumentals...
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Music overall would be my strongest skill set by far, I have always had a great ear for music. I have a very gifted mind and bringing actual stage experience into my productions , generates that extra energy and overall feel in all my productions...
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Emotion, Flexibility, Energy, Dynamics and a little piece of home...
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Every song and every client is different, but one thing never changes... learning the back story to each song gives me a very solid foundation to "build" on and build a strong personal relationship with my clients...
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Years of research went into the planning of my studio, focusing on gear which compliment each other for the best overall production performance. I never generate specifics, then everyone would be doing it...
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I grew up when music was at it's finest, locking myself in my bedroom playing to Stevie Nix, Journey, Boston, Little River Band, Boston ust to name a few. Being a prodigy made my climb up pretty easy, meeting celebrity greats such as opening for Johnny Cash when I was 12 at a festival in Clayton NY and later being signed to a touring group known as Plane Jane...
