Interview with CL

  1. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  2. A: None. Talent and hit records do the talking.

  3. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  4. A: No advice. I would just want them to know that I will work tirelessly until I provide exactly what they ask for and beyond.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I don't have the decade-long experience as do some of my peers but I think that is my advantage. I do things that work, not just because a 'guru' or 'specialist' told me but because it works with whatever I'm aiming to do. I've been at music for less than a year but from what I do and how I do it, you would think longer!

  7. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  8. A: Poo Bear. His writing is insanely simple but carry such a melodic energy and catchiness that makes him one of the best in the business.

  9. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  10. A: I'm still working on that project :D

  11. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  12. A: Becoming a better producer, songwriter, instrumentalist and vocalist for myself and the people!

  13. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  14. A: Not at the moment!

  15. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  16. A: A little bit of both! Digital, to me, makes somethings a bit easier while analog just gives you that flavor digital can't.

  17. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  18. A: I will work my butt off to provide exactly what you are looking for.

  19. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  20. A: I love music and I love sharing that love through other people and other projects haha!

  21. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  22. A: Do I produce my own stuff? Yes, I do!

  23. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  24. A: Who's your audience? What do you want to express? How do you want to express it? Are you ready to make this an amazing record?

  25. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  26. A: Custom-built PC xD, Manley Ref Mic, UAD Apollo, UA LA2A and the Pultec EQ haha. Hard but good question.

  27. Q: How would you describe your style?

  28. A: Trendy, creative, inviting yet familiar.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Learn all the rules just to break them!

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I range between Hip-Hop, R&B and Pop. More contemporary styles that I genuinely enjoy listening to and being apart of.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: To listen, understand and execute the artists' vision.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring character, passion and integrity. I also boast that I take every song into careful consideration and will treat every record as if it were my own!

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I like to read a bit before working on anything music related. Clears the mind as well stimulates the sense before approaching any musical challenge.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I currently own Yamaha HS8 Studio Speakers, a gorgeous Universal Audio Apollo Twin Duo as well as the famed Neumann U87 microphone.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I love researching and studying the work of many musicians in their respective fields. Justin Bieber, Max Martin, Poo Bear, Noah '40' Shebib all head my quest to become better in every aspect of music.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Theres a variety of things I offer to the artist I'm working with: I track artists in a home studio setting, edit vocals (tuning, comping, timing, etc) I produce instrumentals for artists to record to and possibly release as an official record. I help artists express and translate feeling, thought and emotion by assisting in the songwriting process. I offer my voice to compliment, enhance or simply occupy a musical performance (features, hooks, background vocals, vocal chops, etc.)
