Mixer/Producer/Songwriter

Patrick Brown / Studio_Dad on SoundBetter

Producer/Engineer based at Different Fur Studios in San Francisco... Work with artists such as Toro y Moi, KFlay, Dude York, Tia Nomore, Blimes & Gab, GRMLN etc.

17 years of experience Mixing, Mastering, and Producing. I also run a Publishing Company/Record Label called Text Me Records and represent around 2 dozen songwriters. In the past I've served as a Governor on the board of the SF Chapter of The Grammys. Generally I'm interested in helping artists either refine their sound, or define themselves a new sound all-together. Very open to experimentation. Mainly I work from my own studio but have no problem traveling or working at other studios to change the sound/vibe, and I often travel to LA. My taste in music is really broad. Anything in search of the right sound. I also drink lot of coffee.

Would love to hear from you. Click the contact button above to get in touch.

Interview with Patrick Brown / Studio_Dad

  1. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  2. A: Never be afraid to move on from something that isn't working, but don't use that as an excuse never to finish anything when it gets hard either.

  3. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  4. A: I try to listen from a fan perspective. Figure out what moves me and accentuate that thing

  5. Q: What's your typical work process?

  6. A: Depends completely on the clients project and what serves it best

  7. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  8. A: I have two studios within the same facility. The first is a 48 channel SSL4000G room with 24 channels of Studer 2inch, 48 Channels of Protools i/o and racks of outboard. This room was built around 1968 and has been host to thousands of artists including Herbie Hancock, Primus, Mr. Bungle, Too $hort, Bobby Brown, MC Hammer, Stevie Wonder, and on and on. The second studio which is where I primarily work, is a smaller mixing and production suite running ProTools and Ableton, with a vocal booth. Lots of synths (Dave Smith, moog, Korg, etc) and guitars and other toys, plus tons of plugins

  9. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  10. A: Kanye, Grimes, Cam'Ron, T.Rex, Sum41, Ghostface, Prince, Ani Difranco, 2Pac, A$AP, Yung Lean, Frank Ocean, Little Dragon, Yungster Jack, RMR, Lil Wayne, Paul Simon, Drake, DJ Fresh, N.E.R.D., Shuggie Otis, Lil Jon, Ethelwulf, KEY!, Babyshambles, JUVENILE, St. Panther

  11. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  12. A: These days I typically focus on mixing and producing, though i will still do location recording and mastering on occasion.
