Franklyn on SoundBetter

Hello! I am a professional musician and I love to sing! I've had the pleasure of singing bgv for Grammy winning and nominated artists, I've performed on various stages and around the world as well as network television shows, a session singer, a vocal coach, and vocal producer. I love music, and I have a unique voice that may just fit your project!

I specialize in EDM, folk, pop, country, children's music, CCM, and background vocals. I am able to vocal arrange if needed as well. I am a trained singer, I have an M.S. in Music Education. I am also a certified Music Teacher in California. I've toured as a professional background singer, and I've also been featured on studio recording albums for signed artists. I am a songwriter, and have published work in the sacred genre.

Franklyn was amazing to work with. She was super responsive, go the job done very quickly and was able to achieve exactly what I had asked! She was very focused on making sure that she understood my vision and achieved it fully. Franklyn took my song and elevated it to the next level. Our deep track moved up the order based on her performance alone

Frankly was the first singer I ever worked with and I am glad that it was her. She was completely professional in her work, giving my song the attention it deserved. Her vocals were well written and sung, no doubt! She was helpful throughout the process and really fast with all the recordings. Working with her was truly a pleasure :)

Franklyn is an incredible songwriter, singer and vocal arranger. I've had the privilege of working with her on my project and we came up with one of my best songs yet. She's fun, efficient and professional.

Interview with Franklyn

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Honestly? This past year I taught elementary music at two charter schools. Their spring concerts made me SO proud. The amount of work it took to pull it off was astounding and a huge balancing act. They sounded great!

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am completing a writing project for a client who is an artist.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Yes! Another fellow background singer and professional musician Zenya. She is amazing.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: I'm always going to try my very best.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I'm getting paid to do what I love, I'm not even sure I can call it a job! It's a dream!

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: Are you working on your own project? Yes, a children's music project, and one alt-R&pop project. Are you willing to come vocal produce an artist in the studio? Yes, if it's reasonably close or transportation is provided. What if I want to keep your voice on my record? That's been done, and I am open to it.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: That if you're good, you don't have to keep learning. And that's not true. A musician is a forever learner, and we can always improve our skills.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: Sometimes, how a record comes out is contingent upon the vibe. I like to ask clients what kind of vibe or feeling they are trying to achieve, and that will influence the sound.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: If you are unsure about the voice, request more music.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: MBP, headphones, interface, Shure mic, speakers. We're in business.

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: My career path has always been to only be a musician for the rest of my life. I've been making money as a musician now for the last 17 years.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: If I were to be an artist, I would describe my style as a trap Imogen Heap.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: I would love to sit at the feet of Sia. She also has a quirky voice with her own nuances, and she is an amazing songwriter. She has longevity and there is a reason for that.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: Put it down. Go away. Come back. Then listen again. Sometimes, a fresh ear will catch something you didn't hear the first few times.

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: I usually work on EDM, pop, children's music, folk, country, singer songwriter, and R&B.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: Vocal arranging. I love harmony and contrapuntal melodies.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: I have a kind of quirky voice, and I love ambient sounds my voice can make. I try to bring warmth and edge to a song.

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: When approaching a new project, I like to stay open minded and creative. An open mind also means open ears for listening to critiques.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: I have an MBP, I record with Garageband on an amazing Shure mic (which makes all the difference).

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: I really am inspired by the "accidental star", the underdog, and the veteran "overnight celebrity". Those artists and musicians that were driven by their passions to create music in the background, but whose talent and persistence pushed them into the spotlight. I love those kind of stories.

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: I am often commissioned to top line, session sing folk/EDM/pop, and vocal arrange.
