Mike Hillier is a mastering engineer at London's Metropolis Studios and a music technology journalist

As an engineer, Mike trained at Metropolis Studios, London, where he worked with artists as diverse as Eminem, Rihanna and Scott Walker. Working out of the Metropolis Studios gave Mike access to a huge range of equipment and expertise, from tracking right through to mastering. In addition to Metropolis, Mike has worked out of Sphere Studios, Britannia Row, The Dairy and The Park.
Mike is now back at Metropolis as one of the in-house mastering engineers.

As a journalist Mike is a regular contributor to Music Tech Magazine and Pro Sound News Europe.

Mike has been a regular guest lecturer at SAE Oxford.

Mike is the co-founder of #SonicMeet.

Interview with Mike Hillier

  1. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  2. A: I work out of a mastering room at Metropolis Mastering, London. The room is built around a Maselec console and PMC monitoring, with Prism, Maselec, Sontec, and Avalon hardware.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Both. Silly question.

  5. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  6. A: Damon Albarn. He has brought so much to so many styles of music. From britpop, to hip-hop, and taking in grunge, folk, and even opera.
