Sammy Listoe on SoundBetter

Indie, Rock, Electronic, Country.

I am a singer/songwriter currently residing in Los Angeles. I grew up in the outskirts of Montana, where my country and rock roots stem from. After moving to Southern California, I began to open up and hone my songwriting and melodies in different genres. Whatever the mood or genre, I like to really dive deep into the meaning and backstory of project, and pull every bit of emotion and realism out of it, and bring all of that to a song. I would love the opportunity to work with you! Please shoot me an email at the contact space above.

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

I am a lifetime musician who has had the privilege of watching Sammy Listoe develop into a consummate professional in the music business. From the creative introspect in the writing process to the actual live performance, Sammy puts body and soul into every song. I have performed on the same stage with Sammy and throughly appreciate his attention to detail and willingness to learn from each show.

Interview with Sammy Listoe

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: Currently I am working on a new EP and booking an acoustic European tour in the fall.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: This awesome woman by the name of Tosh. Her vocals are beautiful, her lyrics are incredible, and she truly cares about what she does. A real pro.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: I promise to give my full attention and focus to your project, and finish to the absolute best of my ability.

  7. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  8. A: Go with your gut. Listen to what a provider has, and if its anything close, get in touch and really ask questions. I believe a phone conversation is best and it gives you a good sense of who the provider is, and its easier to chat back and forth.

  9. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  10. A: I have been writing music for 8 years, and touring/performing for 4 years. I grew up in Montana racing motocross, never really had music on my mind, but my family had always been very music driven. My moms side consists of 9 brothers and sisters, who have all sang and played at one point in their lives. So once we moved to California, I was around 15 years old, and decided to sing one day at a karaoke spot. Fell in love with it there, and the rest is kind of history.

  11. Q: How would you describe your style?

  12. A: My style is a blend of indie pop-rock, with a country influence.

  13. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  14. A: I would love to work with Chris Stapleton. His lyrics are incredibly deep and emotional, and I love that aspect of any song. If you can make someone feel like they are right there, living that song, I think you have succeeded.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: I would say just don't over do it. In my personal opinion, I like some of the rawness that comes with a vocal crack, or a breath that sneaks in there. It makes the track feel more alive.

  17. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  18. A: I bring a lot of emotion and imagery to a song. I always find a way to connect to the songs I write, and I believe when you write with that part of you, the listeners truly believe and feel the song.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: If I am writing a song (melody and lyrics) I usually start with the melody. It allows the lyrics to flow better as I write them, and makes the process smoother.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: I have a small set up in my apartment. Logic with a condenser mic.

  23. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  24. A: I usually work on Indie-Rock and Country tunes. Recently I have really become more heavily involved in Pop-Rock and EDM tracks.

  25. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  26. A: I would say my strongest skill is my lyric writing. I spend a lot of time on in, and on the imagery in my songs. I like to be blunt sometimes with lyrics, but I also like to dance around the direct meaning, and bring extra feeling to it.

  27. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  28. A: I'm a huge fan of Chris Stapleton. From his deep heartfelt writing, to his incredible vocal ability, I get totally lost in the music when I listen to him. I also really enjoy the singer/songwriters in Ed Sheeran, Kip Moore, and Ryan Adams.

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  30. A: My most common work centers around the top line (melody) and the lyrics. Most of the time I do both for my clients when I write/cowrite on a project.
