Audrey was a delight to work with. Her vocals are stunning and exactly what I was looking for. She even provided a variety of styles for me to choose from and her harmonies were outstanding. The job started on September 10th and I needed the work done by October 10th and she provided the tracks on September 19th! I recommend her work to anyone.

Audrey worked to the brief and produced fantastic vocals that are note perfect! I would be happy to work with her on any future projects and can highly recommend her talents and vocal range.

I have known Audrey for a few months from our work together on the 'Tis Pity She's a Whore: A Pop Opera album that we worked on together. I know Audrey to be an incredibly versatile performer, being able to sing multiple characters in a wide range of notes. She is reliable, dependable, and communicative--a professional in every sense of the word.

Interview with Audrey McDonald

  1. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  2. A: uh...water, canned food, my phone, tent, and shoes. ...idk if I'm answering this right. I don't really have to pack my voice. It's kinda inside me haha!

  3. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  4. A: I got my first singing lessons when I was in grade school. I competed in National Youth Vocal Competitions by the age of twelve and traveled internationally singing at the age eighteen. I moved to Los Angeles and studied with Michael Jackson's vocal coach Dorian Holley and then started performing full time at the age of twenty. I founded Forte Vocal Academy nine years ago. So I guess you could say I've been singing my whole life!

  5. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  6. A: My flexibility! I've been teaching private singing lessons for over nine years with students of all ages and style preferences. Some will come in wanting to learn a country song and the the next student who walks in wants to learn an Adele song. I have to adapt my style to teach that style of song to the student. After years of this I have adapted the ability to change my vocal sound to several different styles. From breathy airy emotional sounds to Christina Aguilera growl to a country twang, I've learned it all!

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: My process is probably pretty uncommon. I like to download the vocal guide it my phone and listen to it in the car for a couple days while I'm driving. I feel like that way when I step into the studio to record I feel like I'm already in sync with the song and I can relax into the recording process. I personally think this leads to a much more sincere and emotionally in tune sounding recording.

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: All recordings are done in our recording studio at Forte Vocal Academy. We use a Tascam TM-80 microphone, mixer, pop filter, stabilizer and of course sound dampeners.

  11. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  12. A: My idols are clearly Bonnie Raitt (country), Aretha Franklin (soul), Linda Eder ( broadway). What a mix, I know right?!

  13. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  14. A: Most commonly my voice is chosen for country pop songs or Disney child friendly songs, however I've gone as far opposite as recording a death metal song before. It was a blast!!
