Interview with Anthony Pitt

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: My church band is doing some pretty big things and I am fortunate enough to have the church and community behind our band. We have been able to go into one of the best studios in Houston to record multiple songs with extremely talented people. I have laid down the bass tracks for every song we have recorded.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Just completed a reggae song with guitar(lead/rhythm and bass) for a client here in Houston.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Tony Natalizio. He's an incredible guitarist!

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Depends on the situation and what's available. At my immediate disposal I have a digital interface so that is my first choice but I am not opposed to analog.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise to give your project 100% effort and integrity because I want you to use me again and for your song to be as good as it can be because I was a part of it.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I get to play music all day every day. That is all i do.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: If I can listen to what they have already or even an idea they have and if I can make something of it. My answer is Absolutely.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That I am just a guitarist/bassist as opposed to a song writer(even if it's for other instruments).

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Who do you want to be musically?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: reach out and talk to many different session musicians. See who you make a connection with because making music can be done many different ways but is best when it can be done with someone you connect with on some level(hopefully musically) and you can build a relationship from there

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: My PRS, 5 string ibanez, macbook, Edrum kit, and my jam room :-)

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I have been playing music since i was in middle school and have been a full time musician for over a decade. I've been playing for 20+ years and teaching for 10+ years.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: rock mixed with funk and hip hop. I'm a huge Jimi hendrix/Stevie Ray Vaugh fan but I love 311 and Rage against the machine to Earth, Wind, and Fire to Justin Timberlake

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would like to work with Hip Hop producers(pharrell, timbaland, even dare i say kanye) because I like infusing rock with hip hop from a musical(not vocal) stand point.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Always play for what is right for the song, not the instrument. Help facilitate the clients vision instead of your own.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Rock, reggae, hip hop, funk and off shoots of guitar driven genres like metal or jam band or country

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Improvisation and being able to come up with parts on the spot.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: 20+ years of playing and writing experience.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Lay out what the clients ultimate goal for the song is(feel, mood, groove, instrument or vocal driven, etc...) then see if they want me to play an idea they already have or if the want me to write something.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have a scarlett solo 2 that i run into garageband at home but i also have access to multiple studios with pro tools and logic as well as an array of mics

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Any genre as long as the musician has a passion and love for what they are doing

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Rhythm/lead guitar or bass sessions. I can do vocal tracks as well but I am mainly known as a guitarist/bassist
