My name is Rafael Rivera also known as “Rafy El Hijo. Prodigo”, i’m a CHH artist. I’ve worked with JeanMark Rodriguez for various years know and he has recorded, mixed and mastered my latest music and it’s been nothing but quality coming from the speakers. I have songs in various genres and sub-genres like Hip Hop, Reggae, Dancehall, reggaetón, trap and drill in which JeanMark has proven to render an excellent sound from his studio (JNR Studio). Examples of these are “Arbol Caído”, “Dale Repost” (in which Mark played the guitar also), “Tranqui en Peace”, “Mami Eres Mi Héroe” and more.

Interview with JeanMark Rodriguez

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: Both. Why, because you literally get the best of both worlds. Analog for that beautiful warm and rich sound and digital to make workflow easier.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: Making my clients happy and overcoming there expectations with there productions.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I've been doing mixing for live venues and studio productions since 2010.

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: I usually work on Rock, Reggaeton and Trap music, mostly all from Christian Artists.

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: My strongest skill is mixing Trap, Reggaeton and Rock.

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: I always bring to every song: space, depth, character, color and life; of course always listening to what the client wants me to accomplish with their song.

  13. Q: What's your typical work process?

  14. A: When it comes to my mixing process I usually ask the clients how do they want me to approach there songs after hearing there raw recordings or ruff mix. It's very important for me in every project to find out first what the client really wants and needs, many times we achieve that by hearing various reference tracks they send me.

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: My setup consists of my main computer; a powerful Mac Pro 6,1 with 12 core cpu and 64gb ram. My main converters are a Lynx Aurora 16 and a Lucid AD9624. My monitors are the CLA-10 (Yamaha NS-10 clones) and the classic Mackie HR824 mk1. For a console I have the Digidesign Control 24. Also in my setup I have other outboard gear like classical preamps such as the 1073 (Heritage Audio) and the Daking Mic Pre II and classical compressors such as the LA-2A(Audioscape), DBX 560A and the TK BC501(SSL bus clone). All my mixes pass through my summing mixer the Dangerous D-Box.

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: Main music production professionals who inspire me are Alfie Musik, Jaycen Joshua, Leslie Brathwaite and Jordan Valeriote.

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: The most common work I do for clients is remote Mixing.

  21. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  22. A: What is your budget for this music project?, What is the main theme for your song? And what do you want me to accomplish with your song?

  23. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  24. A: My advice would be to listen to their music portfolio, the songs they have worked on and if you like how they work then go for it.
