Bentley Dean

Engineer & Sound Designer

Bentley Dean on SoundBetter

Based in the Home of House Music and trained by a pioneer of House Music.

I learned a majority of my skills from one of the pioneers of house music, Mr. Vince Lawrence. I spent time with him and one of his engineers at Slang Music Group learning the ins and outs of audio engineering and dance music production - the experience was priceless. I specialize in mixing, mastering and sound design for a majority of electronic music. I am dedicated to providing you with the best quality results on your project and will ensure that you are happy at the end.

I can provide examples of my work to any one interested until my AllMusic Profile is verified.

Interview with Bentley Dean

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I'm currently working with several colleagues to help them release the best sounding music which is in turn helping them build their careers at an alarming rate.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Currently wrapping up an EP titled 'Redacted' along with several other single releases.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Not yet.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Analog - nothing beats it. The FM on hardware Moogs can do so much more than its digital counterpart.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I will make revisions until you are happy with the track. End of story.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I'm doing what I love and I enjoy everyday of it.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: 'How loud is it?' and I answer with "The same as your reference track."

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: I'm not sure, you'd have to ask my family that one.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I usually ask for a song from another artist as a reference, mostly for loudness, so I can provide the client with the matching loudness levels.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Make sure some of these kids know what they are doing. There are plenty of people out there that will take your money and just slap iZotope Ozone presets on your track, don't fall for that.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: 1) Macbook 2) Apollo Twin 3) Event Opal Monitors 4) Moog Voyager 5) Moog System 55

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've been doing this for 4 years now and have spent a majority of the time focused on engineering the best sound quality possible.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Dark and experimental.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Deadmau5 without a doubt, his music is amazing and his sound design is impeccable.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don't limit yourself to one style, if you do that, you won't progress. Try to master production of every genre and then apply aspects from each style to your own creations.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Typically electronic music of all styles but I am able to work on almost every genre.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Sound design, mixing and mastering.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I can bring you the best modern sound design without the use of presets. I can bring you the cleanest mastering for less than the price of bigger studios.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I usually start from the ground up, drums, then bass, then leads and chord progressions and topping it all off with effects.
