Caleb Parker on SoundBetter

I engineer and mix. Contact me to see if I'd be a good fit for your project.

Like a lot of engineers, I got my start as a musician and began recording on my own because recording at studios wasn't an option. Eventually, it turned into my main gig and I've had the pleasure of working with artists like Scary Pockets, Pomplamoose, and Vulfpeck.

My goal is to get your recording to sound better than you thought it could! Hit me up and let's see if we can make that happen.

Would love to hear from you. Click the contact button above to get in touch.

Interview with Caleb Parker

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I mixed Vulfpeck's Live at Madison Square Garden record. I had several people it feels just like the show so thats pretty cool.

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: I always ask why they want me to mix their song. That always helps me know what direction we are going.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I started out doing production on the side and as a hobby and eventually, that turned into paid professional work. Depending on how you measure, I've been doing this for 15 years or 6 years!

  7. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  8. A: The performance is the most important thing. Capture, Edit and Mix are all really important too, but nothing can substitute for an amazing performance.

  9. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  10. A: I mix a lot of live recorded music. Stuff where everyone was in the same room without much isolation. I also regularly mix for composers who primarily use software instrument - so there's a pretty wide spread of things

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: Reach out! Finding someone you click with and trust is more important than how much they cost and the only way to get to know someone is by making that contact.

  13. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  14. A: A fresh set of ears, and I think I do a good job of making small with the big picture of the song in mind.

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: I've got a Lynx Aurora, a few great mics, a few great instruments, a few pieces of good outboard gear, a really big live room, a tiny mix room.

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: Aoife O'donovan, Matt Ross-Spang, David Boucher, Dave Cobb, Jason Isbell, Blake Mills, Ryan Freeland, Dawes, James Taylor, Greg Koller

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: I spend a lot of time trying to get into my client's heads. I want to get on board with the vision for their song, and taylor the rest of my process to the client's and the music's needs.
