Zach Caraher on SoundBetter

I am highly specialized in music production, mixing, and mastering. My personal work under the name "Big Z" has gained over 5 million streams across SoundCloud and Spotify. My background experience ranges from dance to pop to hip hop music.

I have 7+ years experience producing, mixing, and mastering music. I am highly specialized within the genre of dance music, but I also have a few years of experience with hip-hop and pop music as well.

My music has been played at festivals by Zedd, Oliver Heldens, Felix Cartal, and more. My 'Thinking About You' remix was named one of the Top 10 tracks played at TomorrowLand by Dancing Astronaut.

My goal is to extend my knowledge to take your tracks to the next level. I can give them the drive and feel of the top dance music tracks in the world.

I will be committed to working with clients until they have the sound and power in their track that they desire.

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

Zach had the song back to me very quickly and was patient with me when I hired him!
His mastering made my song sound much better than the mastering I had done before his! My friends commented on it right when they heard it.

Zach did a great job mastering my track, he really brought it to a professional level. The highs were crispy, the lows were nice and full. He turned it around super quickly too, great job!

I'll definitely be using him again!

Interview with Zach Caraher

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I worked as the composer, producer, mixing engineer, and mastering engineer on my track Fool For You by Big Z. It now has over 1.3 million streams on Spotify and another 350,000+ streams on soundcloud.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: An original track for my own project

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I'm not sure

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital because it's portable, less expensive, and offers greater flexibility.

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: That dance music isn't musical

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: Do you want this as loud as commercial records or do you value more dynamic range?

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: Make sure your mix sounds relatively good before sending. The best mastering engineers in the world can't fix a terribly mixed track

  15. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  16. A: Logic X, serum, a MIDI keyboard, studio monitors, and my sample packs.

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: I have been producing, mixing, and mastering music for about 8 years now. I am now a full-time producer/artist and do mixing and mastering services on the side.

  19. Q: How would you describe your style?

  20. A: Good vibes that make you dance

  21. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  22. A: Sigala because he is a very successful artist with a similar style to my own.

  23. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  24. A: Less is more. The #1 mistake most new producers make is to clutter their tracks with too many synths and fx. Keep it simple and make sure to have a clear idea of the vibe you are going for when you're working on a production.

  25. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  26. A: Usually dance music but I've worked with hip hop and pop as well

  27. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  28. A: Mixing, mastering, and production

  29. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  30. A: I can bring a fresh perspective. A new set of ears to finish mixing or mastering a track is essential to any record that you want to be ready for a mainstream audience.

  31. Q: What's your typical work process?

  32. A: I've developed certain workflow habits over many years, there isn't really enough room to explain that entire process here.

  33. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  34. A: I'm running Logic X on a 27" Mac with thousands of dollars worth of plug-ins that I use to produce, mix, and master as professionally as possible.

  35. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  36. A: Galantis, Sigala, Calvin Harris, Wave Racer

  37. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  38. A: Mastering, mixing, ghost production, and vocal tuning

  39. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  40. A: That I get to produce music for a living

  41. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  42. A: Do you offer bulk deals for multiple tracks? Yes I do. Contact me for more info

  43. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  44. A: That I will revise your mix/master until you are completely satisfied.
