Interview with RJW Creative Productions

  1. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  2. A: Laptop (with unlimited battery) Headphones Yamaha Motif 8 AKG 414 Martin Acoustic Guitar

  3. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  4. A: Musicians- Sting, Bon Iver, Dave Matthews Band, Billy Joel, Jay Z, Kanye West, Eminem, and Nelly. Music Production Professionals- Joe Zook, Bruce Swedien, Chris Lord-Alge, Chad Franscoviak, and Rick Rubin

  5. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  6. A: SIMPLICITY! It is so important to keep it simple. I usually find it best to achieve "that sound and feel" with the least amount of extra bells and whistles as possible. This way, when it is time to push the limits and do something really creative, you'll have the space in your mix to add those extra layers.

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: The majority of my clients are pop and hip hop.

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: The mix! I believe that I excel in balancing all of the elements of sound to find the sweet spot that fits just right for the project.

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: I come from a background of rock, pop, and jazz music and I have extensive experience working in the sound design industry, doing sound effects and mixes for videos and live events. So, I believe that I bring a strong musical influence and relevance to the project, along with a broader, cinematic vision for creating a sonic space that is as vivid as possible.

  13. Q: What's your typical work process?

  14. A: Typically, my clients send me a file containing the audio from their session, along with an email (or a phone conversation) containing some direction about their vision for the project. Next, I will bring their files into my session and begin my mix. Once I get the mix to a place that I am happy with it, I will send it back to the client and have them review the mix and give feedback before I start the mastering process. After the client is happy with the mix and we have made all of the "mix adjustments", I will begin the mastering process. Again, I'll get the master to a place that feels right, and I will send it back to the client for approval. Throughout this entire process, I like to keep an active open dialogue with the client to make sure that we are staying true to the original vision and direction of the project.

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: Pro Tools 10,11,12 2 Yamaha HS8 Monitors A variety of plugin favorites from Waves, Antares, Izotope, and more....

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: I most often perform mixing and mastering services for my clients.
