Interview with Ninety Joes

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I'm proud of all my work, i guess i haven't got THAT work that i'm dreaming.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Making a fan base to sell my beats

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I'm just starting

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both, digital is cheaper and portable so you can experiment like a beast, analog is just analog sounds 3D to me, so both.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: Audio Quality and a Job delivered on time.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: It's the thing i love the most in the world, connect people.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Can i have this for free? If is a talented artist i'll probably give it away just to see what i sounds like.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That i'm a one man show, i know exactly what i can and what i can't do. I can mix but i'm not a Mixing Engineer or a Mastering Engineer.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What is the idea behind this project? What you want to achieve? You want to expand your artist brand?, want to make it sound modern? want to make it sound old?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Give me the overall picture first then get specific, I take my music seriously it's not my hobby so you can expect quality with the right amount of time. Give me the idea and ill do the work, i can take feedback (especially my grandmas feedback she is a savage, she use to tell me i suck at playing piano)

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Maschine, USB mic, Laptop, Apro-300, Solar Powered Generator with satellite Wifi. Probably be making beats and eat coconuts till they rescue me.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've been producing for 5 years not taking it seriously just messing around logic pro, i get addicted the last 2 years to actually doing something with these skills. I play the piano since i was 6 and started with the drums at 13, had a band and all that.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: A Drummers approach

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: An artist that feels the music he's (or she's) doing and has a vision of what he (she) wants. My dream collaboration will be with pharrell but i'm not worthy (wayne's world type). If i can revive an artist will be Amy Winehouse and i'll work with her i 5 years from now (then i'll be worthy)

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Usually to enhance a groove i take stuff out instead of adding elements, i like the minimalist approach,

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Hip Hop with touches of edm and R&B

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Drumming, enhancing drums, programming beats, making loops and samples, drum and bass arrangements, drums and bass mixing skills with vocals.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: great Groove driven drums and bass, enhancing a groove, adding layers of sound and textures to make a pattern feel interesting, to make it catchy. If in the first 15 seconds i'm not interested i move on. Of course there are exceptions but it dependes of the purpose of the song.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I'll make my beats on maschine typically or in the box and then mix it in the studio with proper monitors. Then i'll records maybe some vocals in the studio as guidance.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I got a pair of Rokit 6 G2, Roland Integra 7 a Roland UA-S10 as my interface wich i love, Mac mini, Roland A-49 and A-300 and a Korg M50, Maschine MKII.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Pharrell Williams, The Neptunes, Dr.Dre, Kaytranada, Anderson .Paak, Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Michael Jackson, Atlanta Trap Producers (Mike will made it, Metro booming, Sonny Digital, etc.) and many more.
