Interview with MixedByDaz@dbAudio™️

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Blanc Canvas album. It was my 1st production role. I produced, engineered and mixed most of the track on the album.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: Marco Schnabl

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Hybrid. I still love the sound and unpredictability of Analog, but Digital provides a super workflow and whole new world where there are really no limits.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: Commitment, a shared vision and goal, nothing less than the best.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: Everything !

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: Can you make it sound like ____? Not unless we can get ____? to play that part or sing that verse.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: That I'm a romantic.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: I enquire as to their aims for the track/s, what they love hearing or listening too. How long they expect the project to take, various little details regarding the production.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Communication is always key.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: Microphone, Guitar, MacBook, interface and Coffee machine

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: I've been recording since I was six years old, had a brief stint moonlighting as an Auditor.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Open and Punchy with the right amount of grit and character.

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: Any artist who genuinely loves what they do. It's infectious !

  28. A: Take regular breaks !

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: I work on Country, Blues, Rock, Hip Hop, R&B, Pop, EDM, House, Folk, Latin.

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: Listening.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: Clarity, a clarity of what the song is trying to say. Once I have this box ticked, then everything else becomes more apparent.

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: I usually start by loading up received files in my Mix template, listen to the files (all faders up) first. A few runs. Then I would make sure that everything is clean (noises, fret buzz, rattle, boom, perform fades, etc.) and laid out the way I like working. Thereafter it's all about finding a good balance, making a few notes, executing the plan and the Mix.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: I work mainly in Logic and Pro Tools, sometimes in Cubase and Studio One. Gear and Processing: Focusrite Control 2802, Drawmer, Aphex, DBX with HR824 monitors, Sonnox, McDSP, Slate Digital, Focusrite, Soundtoys, Eventide, SSL Duende, Eiosis, Relab, Softube, Antares, Exponential Audio, Izotope and FXPansion.

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: I'd have to say that everyone I've ever worked with, heard or seen inspires me.

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: Audio production, editing, restoration, mixing and mastering are among the most common jobs I do for clients.
