Interview with Hammer Records

  1. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  2. A: That we only stick to one genre. We do a multitude of genres, but not all. We know our limits and won't try and fudge anything. If its something out of our wheel house then we will tell you! The things that we DO do, we do very well!

  3. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  4. A: We are the perfect one stop shop for a multitude of services. Do you have an song already recorded and want it mixed? Or are you looking to take your song to the next level and add instruments or change up the style? We at Hammer Records will work with you along every step to make sure you are happy with the final product!

  5. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  6. A: Honestly, working with the smaller artists is always more rewarding. Striving to create something unique and interesting is always a fantastic process. Taking someones idea and making it the best it can possibly sound so that they can put their best foot forward in this industry is something we love.

  7. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  8. A: Always compare your mix with a reference mix to see how it stacks up. If you want your song on the radio, it has to sound as good as whats on the radio!

  9. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  10. A: We do everything from RnB, HipHop Rock and Metal. You can hear different samples on our website of different styles. As well as we create custom instrumental tracks for pop/hiphop singers.

  11. Q: What's your typical work process?

  12. A: We start with finding out what the artists intent is with the song. Is it just for themselves to hear or is it for their parents and friends or are they wanting to be on the radio. Then we would start working on the instrumental. Once all the music is finished we start on the vocals. Tracking, editing and polishing the final vocal before bringing everything into the mixing stage where we do all the finishing touches on the song.

  13. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  14. A: Hammer Records works out of many larger studios if the project needs it, but we have fantastic studio of our own where we do the majority of our mixing, editing and mastering.

  15. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  16. A: Garth Richardson, Bob Ezrin, and David Foster are some of my favourite producers. Hard working and they all truly love the music they create.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: We do a lot of vocal comping and editing. We work hard to get the best performance out of all their takes to make sure the track is radio ready. If the vocals aren't done right then it doesn't matter how good the track sounds.
