Dan heard things I had a hard time noticing in my mastering process. He gave very good tips and it was easy to communicate with him about the track we worked on!

Before my last release I sent two files to different Mastering Studios. At the end it was easy to decide for Dan, as his work was simply the best. I also played the different versions in front of friends and we all came to the same conclusion. Beside the technical reasons I also need to say that working with Dan is fun and a pleasure.

Interview with Dan D'Ascenzo Mastering

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: An optimal playback on streaming services as well as in clubs

  3. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  4. A: I started as a DJ in 1991 then music production in 1996 including mixing until 2005 when I got my SAE diploma. During my study I fall in love with mastering. I do mastering since then, in 2006 until today

  5. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  6. A: That in 2019 most still want to have loud Masters! It's over.

  7. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  8. A: I recently had the chance to master an Unplugged Live album from a French artist. It’s been a long time since I mastered a live recording, especially not for the actual streaming era. If you are interested to have a listen, here’s the link: https://open.spotify.com/album/2tgmEJ8BLMRzlmwsefSSfo?si=8PcOxVVtQoyeAx1QJer8-Q

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: Both! But Analog first ;) Because mostly I'm oldschool. I love technology.. but I can't achieve the same powerful sound with digital only. And on the flip side, digital are essential to tweak my sound upfront the analog rig and after.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: To read all the positive reviews that my happy customers send me.

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: If you want to stand out on streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal or Youtube, then you knock at the right door! I master the loudness normalisation and all the music that I've mastered and that are released on the streaming services stand out way more than everyone else!

  15. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  16. A: Zoom H4N, MPC, Apollo Twin, Heaphones. That's it.

  17. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  18. A: If you're happy with you mixdown, take a break for some times.. Then open the session again and turn DOWN the loudspeakers at the minimum audible possible.. You will detect directly if elements like for instance HiHats or cymbals,... stand out too much.

  19. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  20. A: I bring my sound signature to any kind of music. Mostly Electronic Music (incl. Pop, Hip-Hop, Boom bap).

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?
