drums - jazzy style

steffentrommelt on SoundBetter

Natural drumsounds, jazzy style and sometimes different - that is my passion. Recorded in 24bit stereo with no compression or effects on it - just a good sounding drumset. You could select between 5 snare drums and different hihat sizes, 3 bass drum sizes - but believe me - the sound is in my hands.

Drummer since age 14, studied jazz drums in Münster, playing a lot lof different styles. If you like real drum feeling on your track - that is me. Not that pop drumming with gates and reverbs, not that 16-single track drum set for editing professionals. I mean drums! Give it a try, and I look what it make me feel. You only pay, if you like the drum part - and I only drum - if I like the track and there is something in my mind. Special prices for album collaboration including liner notes.
The drumset is Tama, Pearl, snares from sonor, mapex, pearl, cymbals Zildjian, Pasite, Stagg - brushes (nylon, metal), sticks.
The drums are miked, 2 overheads for the cymbals... thats all.

Interview with steffentrommelt

  1. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  2. A: analog and digital, fully payed. Haha. Akg-Mics, a no-noise mixer, and a DAW with cubase, reason.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: I love jokes.

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: Drumming?

  7. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  8. A: 4 on the floor.

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: Are you able to pay? No, BPM and wishes - like silence on the middle part.

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: If you would prefer to play your music with a band - but okay there are not enough jazz cats in town - call me.

  13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  14. A: Sticks, Water, Heineken beer, Jim Beam and a Sonor Snare.

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: Over 35 years - no career, it is a lifestyle.

  17. Q: How would you describe your style?

  18. A: My aim is the music....

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: Miles Davis - oh he cannot call me anymore. So - its you - each one with a cool music idea looking forward.

  21. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  22. A: avantgarde-jazz

  23. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  24. A: fun

  25. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  26. A: I call it an improvisation on my musical instruments - cause the drum kit has 4 snares, 3 hihats, 2 Toms, 2 Stand Toms, 4 Octabans, 3 Rototoms, 4 Crashes, 4 Chinas, 3 Splashes, double bass drum pedals to produce a lot of noise....and sometimes you do not need it: A snare, one bass drum and brushes - do not drink a long island ice tea every time, if a beer is enough.

  27. Q: What's your typical work process?

  28. A: Listen, listen, listen. And than: Give it a try - Second chance - and done. Well, And I need the BPMs and I use a click, but not as slave to the rhythm - sometimes ist has to be in flow to make the music breathy.

  29. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  30. A: Every one. But I like those drummers with a new approach on jazz - The drummers from Tingvall Trio, Gogo penguine, the new guy in the Erik Truffaz Quartett.

  31. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  32. A: Add something with a value - not what a drum machine could do as well. If it should be human and creative - maybe in case of a 4 or 8bar-Loop - write me.

  33. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  34. A: jep. create and put a mono track of the drums in the middle of of your mix with distortion - amp or vst plug - on it and kill the information under 100Hz. That makes - in 70% of multi instrumental music - the drums sounding better - even if you use a loop-player and drumtrack samples.

  35. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  36. A: Are you able to send me the tracks tomorrow. Yes!

  37. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  38. A: ctraltu - eveything - this is music I had in my mind.

  39. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  40. A: practicing a lot... I like the idea of independence

  41. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  42. A: no yet

  43. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  44. A: Analog recording, digital shipping - that´s the way it is.
