My name is Jonathan Class and I'm a mixing engineer in Nashville, TN. I've worked with artists and bands from all over including Josh Garrels, The Wldlfe, Chris Renzema, Chase Wright, Dave Barnes and Alana Springsteen. My mixes have been heard millions of times. Would love to work with you too!

I really like to get to know a bit about everyone I work with, I'm an informal guy! So having a chat or just reading about your music means a lot, which I think comes through when I'm mixing music. I want to catch your vision and run with it. Once we establish that, I'll have you send multitracks or a Protools session, and I'll get started carving out a mix. After a first mix, I ask for detailed notes so I can really know exactly what you want. If there's any sort of confusion, I'll ask before I do anything, but usually try to finish in 3 revisions. Then it's off to mastering!

Jon is an incredible producer, keyboardist, and a fun person to work with. His process is very efficient, without sacrificing time to really feel out what the song needs, and how to achieve that goal. I've never met someone who can come up with so many melodies on the spot that fit the song perfectly every time!

Interview with Jonathan Class

Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: My friends Alex Dobbert for mastering and Josh Frigo for producing.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I'll stick to your vision and give any extra 'umph' it may need. If you don't like it, I'll change it!
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Just try to give me a clear picture of what you're shooting for on the front end! The more detail, the better.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Grew up playin Classical Piano, still love it to this day. Studied Music Business at Anderson University and just decided after school to make records out of my house. I guess it worked, so I got a studio space with a buddy a few years ago, then moved to Nashville in February of 2021 and started mixing full time.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Trust your gut, don't just do something different because you think you're being cool. Do what's right for the song.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I strive for the clarity of the aesthetic. Some songs need lots of breath and huge dynamics. Some need to pump and thrill. I try to best to achieve the right sound for the song, not just phone it in because it's my preference.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: It depends on the project. I like have a as close a relationship as I can with clientele to get the best out of the songs and mixes. Overall, I'm a pretty informal guy, so no matter what I'm working on, I just like to get an honest response from the people I work with!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I've got a room in my house set up mostly for mixing, complete with my Barefoot Footprint 01's and a few green plants as well!
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Huge fan of Tchad Blake as a mixer. It's not for everything, but I love the character he gets out of his mixes. Really love everything I hear from Manny Marroquin too, he nails the pop sound for me every time.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Mostly mixing these days, love working with artists and producers alike!
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Who are your influences? How do want your record to sound? What do you hope to accomplish with this work? Would you like to grab a beer?
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: It's a pretty good mix of rock, indie, singer-songwriter and pop.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Fitting songs into their own space. Either that, or napping.
