"Sound Engineer"

allen_head on SoundBetter

Hello! A little about me. I used to listen to my brick iPod on the bus for hours as a kid. Since then, I've known how great music can be and how much it can bring to our lives. I hope to make great lasting work. And I believe if we work together, I can bring your track to its full potential.

I'm fairly new to the professional mix/master scene. Currently I don't have much experience, but I have the education and knowledge to deliver a quality of work that some pros can't match. I've mixed a ton of stuff for free for people on Reddit. Here are some of my qualifications:

-Trained with Micheal White, a mixing engineer with 30 years of experience, a master who's worked with Whitney Houston, Mick Jaeger, and hundreds of other professional artists.

-Read extensively on mixing, some of the books I've studied: "The Art of Mixing" by David Gibson, "The Mixing Engineer's Handbook" by Bobby Owsinki, and many others.

-Keep up with the latest software; I mix on Pro Tools & Ableton, I have Izotope's I9N3, the Slate Plugins, the Fabfilter Pack, etc. I have the right tools for the job.

-I've been producing and mixing for ~10 years. I am just beginning to get into the professional scene.

I'm dedicated to doing the best work I can. This is my art and I take that seriously. Because I don't have the extensive resume that some of my mentor's have, I'm also doing all this work for a very competitive price. If you're a start-up artist looking for pro-quality work, I can do some great things with your track. Let me know if you have any questions.

Send me an email through 'Contact' button above and I'll get back to you asap.

Interview with allen_head

  1. Q: How would you describe your style?

  2. A: Clear, up front, warm.

  3. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  4. A: Perspective. It's popular these days to say that artists can mix their own tracks at home. I believe that it is possible, but the trained ear of someone who hasn't listened to your track 100s of times already can be an invaluable thing - especially in getting a good mix.

  5. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  6. A: I work in the box on a custom PC. For a while, I believed the hype about analog magic. Recently though, I've learned a ton of techniques to get all that analog style sound from plugins. People often do treat gear like its magical. While its true that digital mixes can sound harsh or lack warmth, I believe that the digital tech has become able to recreate most of these things & even surpass them in many respects.

  7. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  8. A: Big inspiration is the person I first learned from - Micheal White. Other inspirations are people like Rick Rubin, Avey Tare, Ariel Pink, A.G. Cook. People who have pushed the boundary on music.

  9. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  10. A: Full track mixing. I receive stems via email and I put them together to make an awesome song.
