Interview with For the Record Productions
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: What Sounds Better?
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise I will dedicate myself to your project and your vision and capture it in the best way possible and you will see return in a timely and efficient manner.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Ever since I first started recording I knew it was what I wanted to do as a profession. I have been running my own studio out of my house since the first band I started in high school and I plan on continuing to do music and audio work for the rest of my career.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I have a very pop/rock oriented style of mixing. Loud and powerful vocals and drums usually characterize my mixes.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock and Pop Rock are my ideal styles. I have experience in many others from Classical, to A Cappella, to Acoustic Singer/songwriter, but Rock/Pop based styles are my favorite to work on.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Recording and mixing Rock drums is my favorite thing to do.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: As an experienced guitarist, drummer and musician, I understand artistic expression and I know how to capture it in its best light. Being knowledgeable about arrangement, songwriting, and production allows me to think about a project from all angles and get the best final product possible.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work in a project studio setting but pride myself on producing professional level products. Using high quality microphones, preamps, and A/D conversion, everything that I record is top end quality and of course the source sound is key. I have worked with my setup for 5+ years now and I know it better than anything, which is what allows me to get the quality I do.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am inspired by anything that strikes an emotional chord in me. From a song with lyrical genius to one with pristine production quality or a powerful arrangement. From a production, mixing, and songwriting standpoint I have been most recently inspired by bands such as The Wonder Years and Small Pools.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I have been lucky enough to see many of my projects through from beginning to end, which always helps to learn and understand the artist's vision from the get go. As a musician myself, I bring a good amount of experience to the table at any point of the process, whether it is tracking, production, or mixing.
