Interview with Onur

  1. Q: How would you describe your style?

  2. A: I'm always concerned about "how the audience would percept this song if they were in the recording room"

  3. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  4. A: I'd like to work with singer/songwriter genre musicians like Glen Hansard and Damien Rice or maybe with a virtuosso like Andy McKee because lesser the musical source, the bigger I can make.

  5. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  6. A: Turn the knob all the way up and down at every step to be sure what you're doing.

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: It depends actually but I'm usually working on classical stuff, prog rock, electronic and folk music.

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: I'm really excelled at stereo recording.

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: I like wholeharted mixes. It means if a song needs to be a little dirty I won't hesitate to do so. Not every production needs crystal clearness you know. Whatever is giving the feeling the artist intends to do in the first place goes.

  13. Q: What's your typical work process?

  14. A: Half of the time I'm recording musicians at my recording room. Other half of the time I'm mixing and revising the mix with the musicians.

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: I'm using KRK V8's as my monitors and got a Yamaha O2R mixer. I've got Neumann U89 and TLM 170, 3 AKG SE391B's (blue line series), pair of SM 57 and 58's, and AKG D112 at my studio. I also have access to Istanbul Technic University's MIAM Studio which is probably the best in Turkey.

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: Musicians who knows how the work "behind the glass" is done. Like Radiohead maybe. But my biggest inspirations are my teachers Pieter Snapper and Can Karadoğan

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: I'm mostly doing stereo recordings of ensembles and overdubs for pop and folk music
