Interview with Engine 3 Recordings

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: My career has taken in many directions. I first started off recording demos on a boom box and later graduated to a Tascam Portastudio 414. I later went to a trade school program on Lakehurst, New Jersey inside hanger 1, where they used to store the Hindenburg, in which they had school in the side building. There, I learned the essentials from signal flow, tape editing, running recording sessions, and protools. It was very interesting there because we had a lot opportunities to setup reverb chamber and really mess with acoustics of the hanger. It was a two year program, however between the two years that I was there we got mold so they had to tear down the studio. The beginning of the following year we had to build the studio from scratch and install new/old gear. In this, this is one of the key points that really solidified everything of signal flow for me and helped me to gain a greater understanding of the gear that I was working. The remaining part of that year was spent mostly in the newly built mixing suite with the brand new 32 channel Toft console. After I graduated the OCVTS program I started the process of building my own studio. When I opened my own studio setup, I proceeded to work with the various acts playing in the Asbury Park, NJ area. During my time there, I recorded and produced acts such as Midnight Mosaic, Elevator Art, Seasons, Climbing the Walls, and Breathing Blue. I later started my own venue called The Musicians Cave where I ran FOH, lighting, booking and promoting. That led to other opportunities to do live sound for other projects all the while still running my own studio. Later, opportunities became available to attend Full Sail University because I was nominated by the school's president, Gary Jones for the legacy scholarship. Because of this, I moved down to Florida where I am currently finishing up my Bachelor of Science in Recording Arts. I am currently working with Artist Relations at Full Sail as a mix engineer as well as continuing my work with my own studio, Engine 3 Recordings.
