Adrian Tanner on SoundBetter

My name is Adrian. I am a multi-instrumentalist composer, producer and mixing/mastering engineer from Las Vegas, NV. Show me your vision and I will make it reality.

I love music. It's been my life for as long as I can remember. I've been performing since I was 10, making records since 12, and prioritizing learning and growing as a musician as well as a person every day since. I've been heavily involved with all types and genres of music throughout my whole life, and I can provide unique insight and integrate various musical styles into any song I write or produce.

I took an interest in the behind the scenes work of music because I was made aware early on that no amount of individual skill or technical prowess could ever touch the power enveloped in a fantastically produced, well designed composition. The full package, if you will. Composition and production must work hand in hand to truly articulate what an artist is envisioning in their minds. I strive to think big picture and always push every project to reach its full potential!

Here are some things I can do for you:

Remotely mix and master tracks of any genre.
Produce your music and give it that professional sound and feel.
Compose the music and optimize sound for any videos, tv or internet series, short films, etc.
Perform or program all instrumentation for tracks of any genre.
Prioritize achieving the absolute best product possible.

Let's make some music!

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

Adrian’s production skills are phenomenal and he’s great at bringing a project’s vision to life. I’ve worked with him on 2 EP’s and a single in the past and all of them turned out better than my expectations.

Adrian's production was really able to bring the vision for my band's EP to life. He brought a calm but confident attitude to the tracking process which helped us achieve the best final product we could. Great communication and willingness to make revisions we wanted in the mix. Working with him was a great decision overall.

I was blown away with Adrian's production. He tracked and mixed my band's EP and got the drums sounding PHAT. I love how much space there is for each instrument in the mix.

I worked with Adrian a couple of years back with one of my first bands. He's an absolute pleasure to work with and, in my experience, he will make sure that you don't walk away with a song or an album that you aren't happy with. The band I was in at the time played metal/metalcore and Adrian seemed very comfortable working with our material. I would definitely highly recommend Adrian to anyone needing assistance in any aspect of recording, he's the guy.

Interview with Adrian Tanner

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: My promise to you is that I will not stop working until the end result is something that we can both be proud of.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: I love waking up every single day and knowing that I get to be a music maker. It’s a lifestyle that I can’t get enough of. Monetizing my musical skills is like getting paid to eat candy.

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Listen to tracks they’ve done. Nothing speaks higher than a portfolio in this industry, so just use your ears and see if the quality matches the pitch they’re giving you.

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: My style is non-conventional at times, and scary traditional at others. It just depends on the project and how I feel about it. I’m a big advocate of doing whatever feels the best in the moment and that usually is conducive to producing great results. Revise later and rinse repeat.

  9. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  10. A: I typically work in the realm of pop music, but I love rock. All kinds; prog rock, metal, mathrock, etc. Recently though, I have been involved with a lot of hip hop and electronic productions which have influenced my production style drastically.

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: I bring a fresh set of ears and an eager state of mind into every song. I also have advanced music theory knowledge and musicianship that spans most of the instruments involved in modern production. These skills come in handy when producing a track or engineering the best takes out of an artist.

  13. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  14. A: My primary setup consists of a UA Apollo x6, a Heritage Audio 1081 clone into a BLA B172A (1176/2A style) compressor, a Native Instruments S49 Controller all running into Pro Tools and all pumping out of a pair of Kali Audio IN-8s and a KRK10S sub. I have a wide selection of premium microphones, a Quad Cortex guitar processor, tons of the best plugins and software instruments, and a bunch of amazing guitars and basses.

  15. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  16. A: The Beatles, Kendrick Lamar, Danny Elfman, Rick Beato, Nolly Getgood, Max Martin, Hans Zimmer, Eddie Kramer, CLA, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Yes, the list goes on and on but it's definitely all over the place.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: Music production and audio engineering. I love working with clients who aren’t afraid of outside input and are willing to put egos aside to achieve the best possible results.

  19. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  20. A: Both! Analog tracking, digital mixing!!

  21. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  22. A: Most questions I usually get pertain to the way I engineer sessions. For example, how I edit drum or vocal takes, which microphones placed where in the room, what plugins I’m going to use, etc. The answers to all of these are different depending on the project, but I make sure that a prospective client is comfortable with all aspects of the process before finalizing anything.

  23. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  24. A: That it’s easy. This stuff takes time and effort just like any other job, and yet so many treat this profession as a joke. We’re here to create art. That’s no simple task.

  25. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  26. A: I like to know if there are any specific goals with the project. I also like to inquire about their influences and a get a general vibe established for each song. More questions inevitably come up as the project progresses, but usually those are handled for real in the revision stage.

  27. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  28. A: My career path has always been in the world of music. I was playing my first shows at 12, recording and producing albums at 14, playing music all over the US right out of high school, then live sound engineering, studio interning, teaching music, - you name it, I’ve probably done it.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don’t spend too much time on one little aspect if it’s giving you trouble. Forget it for a while, keep on chugging and focus your efforts on the song as a whole. Getting too nitpicky with things is a trap I’ve fallen into many times, and it’s always the biggest time drain in retrospect. Take frequent breaks and listen with BIG ears!

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: My strongest skill would be my ability to listen and provide unbiased feedback. No matter the genre or artist that I’m working with, my goal is to help you achieve the sound that you have in your head.
