Zane is an absolutely wonderful composer and writer. His sound is truly his own and yet he can bring out something completely unique in each track he works on. It baffles me how talented this guy is. He's kind, hardworking, and a true team player when it comes to working with others. I'm telling you, you won't regret hiring Zane. He's the man.

Interview with Zane Callister

  1. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  2. A: Less is more. you cant get too emotionally to every part you write because then you'll have too many parts fighting for the "center stage" if you will. Everything has an amount and a place in the mix.

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: I work mostly on Post-Rock, Ambient, Alternative music

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: Glue. I feel I am a catalyst to a songs potential. The way an architect sees a plot of land and can envision the final result, but also knows what it takes to get the home built, thats how I see production.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: As a producer and writer I get started on the ground floor of projects. I make sure to meet with my clients and get the relationship built as a foundation, then move to the creative process. I mix on the go to prep me for final mixes (on the projects im hired to mix) then i make sure to bring in one of my co-workers to help with final mixes as a point of reference.

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: I work at a beautiful studio here in Kansas City called JTL. We have 3 studios in our building (A,B, & C) as well as a large live room for tracking drums and other instrumentation. Each room is equipped with top of the line A/D D/A as well as analog summing for final mix downs. It's a truly inspiring environment

  11. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  12. A: I've really been enjoying Tycho as well as Mutemath's latest release. I feel like each of those artists are pushing boundaries sonically and creatively.

  13. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  14. A: I score a lot of original content for film makers and artists.
