With studio experience of over 18 years in Bollywood Dipesh not only possesses the right blend of talent & skills, but more importantly - golden ears. These traits have earned him a great reputation in mixing/mastering and vocal production.

Dipesh has worked on countless award winning A grade Bollywood projects during his career in India. His last workplace was YRF Studios in Mumbai - The premier most studio conglomerate of India which released at least 12 movie projects into the mainstream.

Interview with Dipesh Sharma AKA DSB

Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Who is the target audience ? Whats the very foundation of the track ? and what is he looking for ? How (to be very specific) may I help realise his vision ?
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A MacBook Pro, Protools dongle, my trackball, my audio interface and my DT 990pro's. This sums up to five, so I guess I am working on the internal drive :-( !
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Well, right after importing files I do a whole lot of house keeping in the session. Naming stuff, making internal busses, then comes processing individual tracks, which also involves a lot of steroid shots here and there, automation for movement, FX for embellishments, I should start feeling it by now, else onto eradicating bugging elements (if its a bad production). The next day hearing it fresh, enhancing the vibe further with minor level changes and mastering. At this point the client shall be mailed the first draft.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I am an ITB guy... I think I lay my ideas faster that way. I work on protools with some choicest selection of plugins.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I enjoy Vocal FX alot. I may keep playing and toying with ideas for that one orgasmic moment :-)
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Its a musical based on the life of Mother Teresa and tracks for a multi billion dollar amusement park project in Dubai, which is based on bollywood.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That I compose and produce music !
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I would like for you to trust the engineer with his expertise. I like someone who is open to new ideas... but is also sure about his own vision. I am allergic to lost characters.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I have always been proud of anything that I have worked on. Else it wouldn't have been on my discography.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Working in and around music... adding to it creatively with my skill-set and science.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: For me its all about the vibe of the song... the vision of the producer or the creator. I aim at enhancing that.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Apart from Mixing and Mastering... i am also notorious for Vocal Production and FX.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Hybrid. Best of both worlds.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You will have a signature sound.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Its been over 15 years now... and it has been a long process. Alot of ear training and experimenting. Really there is no guru that I follow... except the sound in my head.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I am very organic by nature. Even if its EDM... it should breathe.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Make space for vocals. More number of tracks doesn't necessarily mean kick ass production.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I have worked in Bollywood... and that is where I have trained. Its is the second largest movie industry after Hollywood and it has the privilege of incorporating genres from all over the world apart from India's very own vast culture of music.
