Interview with Luiz Trevisani

  1. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  2. A: Yes. If you keep going, you can actually win. If you give up, you already lost.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Digital. Analog is too much XX Century.

  5. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  6. A: An acoustic guitar, a pick, a tuner, a recorder and a GPS.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: First of all, I like the see the band (or solo artist) live. It's important to feel the attitude, the confidence (or lack of) and the communication with the public. If I like what I see, I take the job. Then there's a lot of talking, about everything, I mean EVERYTHING. The name of the artist (or of the band) is analyzed taking into account the musical target market. Songs are analyzed too and sometimes, rewritten and/or rearranged. Sometimes, new songs are needed, which I usually provide. The looks are very important and has to be checked (and adjusted). Then, rehearsal. Lots of rehearsal. The final step is to go back to the stage and test the improvements.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: You'll get better. Or I won't get paid.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love to see the artists growing and realizing their full potential.

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: Choose someone who really delivers. Don't waste your time (and your money) on fakes.

  15. Q: How would you describe your style?

  16. A: Straight forward, focused and relentless.

  17. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  18. A: i work with beginners, so I really can't say.

  19. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  20. A: Pop-rock songs are the most common type of music. But I love to work on heavier stuff too.

  21. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  22. A: I'm very sharp on my analysis. If it's not right, it's not and has to be fixed.

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: A professional finishing to the whole package (not just to the songs).

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: My clients usually are pop-rock bands who need to "set things straight", from the group's name to its looks, including rearranging songs and adjusting the attitude on stage. It's a very fulfilling job.
