Vyero on SoundBetter

We work together as a team to make your song sound as great as possible. That's it! What I've learned over the years is: The song tells the story, the song tells you what to do next, the song guides your way in every step of the production. I am here to serve YOUR SONG.

Hello, there!

Based in Mexico City, I am an extremely versatile and experienced Mix Engineer and Session Vocalist with a huge background in Pop, Funk, SynthPop, Soul and classic R&B. I have worked with top and unknown artists, as well as Major Labels and Independent Projects... for more than 20 years.

All of my work is currently done at Alquimia Recording House... a World-Class facility set in the heart of Mexico city.

As a vocalist I can do lead and background vocals, as clean or as powerful as you want. I have my own studio and a great mic selection that fit my voice perfectly. Say goodbye to Autotune!!

Interview with Vyero

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: About to start pre-production of Ingrid Löw's second EP, and also tracking for Ciudad de Gnomos's first LP.

  3. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  4. A: 1.- Q: Vyero, can you manage us or get us gigs? A: NO. 2.- Q: Vyero, would you produce, mix or master our album for free? A: If you impress me THAT MUCH... we can arrange something for 1 or 2 songs, but not a full album. 3.- Q: Vyero, can we hire you as our producer or engineer? A: Anytime. 4.- Q: Vyero, we are in (name your country) and we can't travel to Mexico city... can you work with us anyway? A: Of course. Technology is our friend, and no pandemic should stop your music from reaching out.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I've been working as an audio/music professional for more than 20 years. My first career choice was Advertising and Marketing (which I studied and graduated). But music was always my passion.

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: My style has a very nostalgic feel... I am in love with the 70's and 80's... Although it doesn't mean sounding old ... hahahaha. My approach is to always go beyond the retro style and push the boundaries towards a very edgy and modern sound.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Parallel compression ROCKS!!!! It's been one of my favorite techniques in mixing. I also discovered the true power of the dark sid... I mean... the M/S processing... It can really glue everything together, especially on the master bus.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: mainly... Pop music... and any sub-genre (Rock, Funk, Electro, Soul, and so on...)

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: Vocal arrangements and Mixing. I have plenty of great experience doing complex background vocal arrangements and pushing the limits of the lead vocals with amazing results. Don't get me wrong... I NEVER use pitch-correction plugins if there's no need. I'd rather spend 5 hours getting the best takes possible. I think my ear for mixing has become quite good over the last 20 years... just listen and let me hear your thoughts.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: I think that my contribution would be pushing the limits. Taking it further... if it already sounds ok, let's make the tracking sound great, so the mix sounds amazing and the master sounds awesome! And I do this FROM the what the music makes me feel, what I need from it, and finally get it to the pace it deserves to be.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: First of all, I only work with projects that I really like... I rarely do otherwise, because in the end my credits will be there too! As for my studio workflow: Recording vocals for me is very fun... I listen and listen t the song over and over to find out what the best combination of mic, preamp and vocal tone is suited for the song. Once I setup the recording chain, it's all about expression and delivering what the song needs. On the mix I start completely ITB. Trying to get the richness of the sound sources as good as I can. After the mix is done I patch through the analog gear and then straight to the console so I can deliver the finishing touches to the mix. Then the signal is bounced into the DAW again.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: It's a very simple setup. An Antelope Orion Studio Interface, Adam Monitors, Audeze Headphones and Slate raven MTi2 Control Surface. Warm Audio's Tonebeast Preamp, Pultec-type EQ and 1176 FET compressor build my main analog recording chain.... plus a very interesting selection of microphones that include a Coles 4038, Warm Audio WA87, JZ V11, ElectroVoice RE27N, and a Slate ML-1 with over 13 vintage mic emulations. Both my Interface and the Slate VMS ONE Preamp come with a great variety of virtual vintage Preamps, EQs and Compressors that have also been used for many projects. I also have a few 500 serie modules for mixing. Man, I have a lot of fun at the studio.

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Pharrel Williams, Bruno Mars, Lenny Kravitz, Stevie Wonder, The Weeknd.

  23. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  24. A: What's your goal five years from now? What kind of music/artist inspires your soul?

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: I mostly do remote Mixing and Vocal production. Full productions are done sporadically.

  27. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  28. A: Sure! ...Mastering engineer Carlos Freitas (from Classic Master, Brazil) has done an incredible job with my productions... I highly recommend him.

  29. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  30. A: Both!!... We are living in an era where hybrid studios are taking the lead. But, regardless of the recording or mixing method you use.... the most important gear in the studio is the person sitting in the chair.

  31. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  32. A: That they will always get the best from the songs.. and from me.

  33. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  34. A: That it's constantly evolving... music is always changing and every fusion of styles is possible (even if it seems impossible)

  35. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  36. A: Usually, that I may be a Manager or Booking Agent. I don't do that work!!

  37. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  38. A: Let the music speak for itself... I always focus on working with good songs... that's what's going to be around for ever... not the singer, not the arrangement... the songs!.... Overproducing a bad song won't make it better... but you can produce a great song however you want and it will always sound good.

  39. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  40. A: A microphone (with a cable attached), a guitar, a multitrack recorder, earphones and.....mhhh... a power generator ha ha ha

  41. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  42. A: I've produced all the compilation albums for the Latin Musician's Colective ("CLM" in spanish)... this was a project I started in 2009 with talented musicians from many countries of Latin America and Spain. The compilation albums have songs that I produced remotely with those artists. Some were produced from sratch, others were mixed by me and others were mastered by me. since 2009 we have already delivered 3 compilation albums... free to download. This works as a great tool of cross-promotion for independent artists. It's absolutely non-profit. I don't charge for any of the work done for the CLM. And the response from the audience is truly amazing.

  43. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  44. A: I would LOVE to work with Alicia Keys. I think she has a great taste in music and her talent is beyond belief.
