Bernardo is one of the best sound engineers I know. He is able to combine technical knowledge and musicality. I had the pleasure of working with him on several occasions. I recommend and I count on his work whenever possible. He is also a great bass player. Go for it. You will not regret it.

Bernardo has recorded and mixed many works for my studio - Soundfinger - specialized in instrumental music and other styles that require performance and deep knowledge. Besides his amazing audio engeneering skills, what I admire most in Bernardo is his great musicality. He clearly understands what we need for the music and delivers a big sound!

Bernardo was fantastic at mixing my latest CD project, 'Chamado' on Soundfinger Records. He arrived midway through the process and basically saved the whole project by being very musical, diligent and thorough in translating our ideas and concepts into sound at the mixing board. Took it to a much higher level. Plus, a super cool guy to work around.

Bernardo is a highly skilled mixing engineer and very musical. As a mastering enginner myself, it was always wonderful to master his records in the past. I personally like how he mixes the drums and the bass. Highly recommend him.

Interview with Bernardo Goys

  1. Q: How would you describe your style?

  2. A: I like good music! No matter which style of music, if it's good, it's good. I try to respect the root of the song. If it's jazz, I try to make it sound as natural as possible! But in POP music I am always looking for textures and different sounds, and I tend to be more creative in the mix. Brazilian music and Jazz are my biggest influences, but I love to work with pop music as well.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: Dani Black's DILUVIO is a project that I am proud to be a part as recording and mixing engineer. Dani's music is full of soul and the album Diluvio was awarded in Brazil. I've been nominated for a prize, as best mixing engineer.

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: I have just finished mixing Olavo Bilac's new album. He is a portuguese singer. And today I've started to mix Dado's Album. Dado is a very tallented brazilian saxofonist, and his album was recorded in duo with a pianist. It's brazilian jazz instrumental music.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Hybrid for sure!! There are lots of advantages in the digital world, but there are lots of soul in the analog world. So I think to put this 2 worlds to work together is the best scenario!

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: Get the music produced/mixed until they are happy!

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Every single day is different from the others. And I love to work with people and music!

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Do you mind if I attend to the mix sessions? No problem! But I always suggest them to come to the studio at the end of the day. The initial hours of the mixing process is boring to clients, but it's very important to the mixer. So, work alone in this step is better for everyone.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: When is the deadline? How much instruments and channels the production has? What are clients references/influences?

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Listen carefully to provider's mixes/productions to choose the right guy for the job.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: Neve 33609, UREI 1176, pair of U47, PULTEC EQ. But the most important thing are my ears!

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: Gilberto Gil is a brazilian music genius. It would be a dream to work with him in the studio. His music has a lot of poetry, swing and musicality.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: The secret for a good sounding mix is a good arranger/producer and good musicians. A good music arrangement can bring space to all instruments in the mix, and can put everything to work together. For me, the mixing process starts with the arrangement!
