Leonardo Alvarado

Producer / Mix Engineer

Leonardo Alvarado on SoundBetter

Hip-Hop Producer and Mix Engineer Based in New Jersey. I've been making beats and helping artists with their vision since 2001. Then I fell in love with sliding faders and twisting knobs.

As a producer I create musical landscapes for artists to build on and build with them.
I love the creation process as much as the technical side of the music.
There’s something almost spiritual about getting in the zone with someone and vibing out ideas.
I work with the artist to bring what they hear in their head out into the world as well as give them ideas to add to their records.
It’s all about the feel and vibe and I do whatever it takes to get the record to its full potential.

How ever, mixing is my passion. I could lock myself away and spend hours happily tweaking away at a record. After the Artist’s expression is captured, I have the opportunity to shape and sculpt that emotion sonically. Bringing forward the most important elements in the record. Getting it ready to be heard.
I've been mixing music for 15 years and have the skill to make sure your record is of Industry standard and Radio Ready.

Interview with Leonardo Alvarado

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: The album we put out entitled royalty. I did everything on it and I'm proud of it because we made a lot with a little. A lot of work went into that project.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: A couple records for some local artists.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Both, they each offer advantages in different areas. The digital world makes things easy and clean but the warmth of analog can't be replicated in that realm.

  7. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  8. A: I feel like a lot of people think that it's all technical when really we're just a different type of artist working with a different set of tools.

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: The best advice I can offer anyone is to be prepared to work. I will try my hardest to get your best out of you and on to the record.

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: A Macbook (loaded with sounds and software), Nektar P6, Apogee Duet, Neve 1073, Nuemann TLM 103 Are there speakers on this Island?

  13. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  14. A: It would be Big Sean. I like the energy and vibe in his music.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: No matter what any body tells you their is no template or formula, it just has to FEEL right.

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: Hip-Hop mainly and all the various sub genres in between occasionally I'm working on EDM and records with a pop flavor.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: The studio I currently work from has a modest gear set up. Nothing over the top but it produces clean and transparent audio in an acoustically sound room where the mixes usually translate well. I do my mixing ITB as I always have and don't really need too much to create a great mix.

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: I'm inspired by anybody that's hungry and motivated. Indie or Major as long as I can see your Hustle.

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: I usually get requests for full songs from the beat all the way to the master.
