Miesha Burley on SoundBetter

Hello! I'm Miesha. I am an audio/mixing engineer who studied Music Technology at Salisbury University. My goal as your mixing engineer is to cater to your musical vision and represent who you are as an artist. I love helping artists cultivate something that fits their tastes. Let's make some magic! I would love to work with you!

My most notable genres as an engineer are classical and singer-songwriter. However, I love working with all types of music and helping artists take their songs to the next level. My specializations in audio production are the following: editing, mixing, compression (including side chain compression and parallel compression), EQing, automation, multing and quantizing. I make it my goal to approach every mix with the utmost care and tailor it to your musical vision. I'm also a classically trained vocalist and have been writing songs for 16 years!

In the Spring of 2015, I completed a live album of my senior recital. The recital was presented by me on March 7th, 2015. I then mixed and mastered it into a live CD. This included hours of preparation, mic choice/placement, song selection, and collaborating with other musicians. I am so proud of what it's become! Please check it out. It is on my profile. Also on my profile is my mix of Leaf's Come Around. Please check that out as well. I really love what I do and I can't wait to work with you!

Miesha has a great work ethic. Efficiency, but quality are both priorities of hers, which is appreciated as an artist who sometimes needs a push toward productivity. She would send me mixes as they progressed so I could be a part of the process, and she was always happy to take feedback and make changes, with the goal of a great final product.

I loved working with Miesha on a cover of "Lucky". She was very proffesional during the entire process with organization, timely preparation, and overall very positive to work with. She always made me feel comfortable and embraced my creative vision through the project. I was very happy with the final product and would recommend Miesha to others.

Interview with Miesha Burley

  1. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  2. A: Mixing is my strongest skill. I get to be really creative and that's my favorite part of it.

  3. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  4. A: My desired career path is to be an audio/mixing engineer. I have studied this craft for the past 4 years in school. What I lack in professional experience, I make up for in detail and refining my skills.

  5. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  6. A: I would love to work with Evanescence. Amy Lee would be a joy to capture. She gives her microphone everything she has! They are an incredible band- so talented!

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: I try my best to bring the artist's personality to each song that I do. I always aim to bring the best out of each instrument in the track and work tirelessly to do that. I love a clean mix so that is always my goal and what I strive for.

  9. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  10. A: My work typically consists of editing and mixing.

  11. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  12. A: I am most proud of my senior recital CD. It took a lot of work, time, and dedication but it was honestly one of the most rewarding things I've ever done. I was the performer and mixing/mastering engineer for the project.

  13. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  14. A: I am currently working on recording my own music and I'm covering an a capella version of Adele's 'Hello.' I'm mixing an artist's session that I recorded with a friend in March. Her style is singer-songwriter and she is a real talent.

  15. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  16. A: I promise to always give you my best work. I promise to listen to you and honor your requests. I promise to serve you to my best ability and I promise to help you achieve your project's goal in every way that I can.

  17. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  18. A: I love helping artists achieve the best representation of themselves. I get such a thrill from being in the studio and watching an artist do his/her thing. It's a really special feeling and being able to capture it with a mic or to bring their project to life through my mix is so incredible. There is really nothing like it.

  19. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  20. A: The biggest misconception is that what I do is easy. So many people think being an audio engineer is an easy trade and that anyone can do it. That's not true! It takes talent, determination, a lot of hard work, and a lot of time. It's not meant for everyone. It's a meticulous and thankless job at times, especially in the music industry but it is essential.

  21. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  22. A: What is your goal for this project? How can I best bring your musical vision into a reality? What musical style are you looking to emulate? How can I help you do that?

  23. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  24. A: My advice is to contact me! I love working with people and am excited to work with you!!

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: My music production tip is to stay organized. Make sure your sessions are organized. Name everything, color code your tracks, and keep everything in order.

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: I typically mix classical, pop, and singer-songwriter.

  29. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  30. A: Musicians and music production professionals that inspire me include those who use their craft to add to other people's lives. Authentic and transparent artists and artists who are unique really resonate with me. Audrey Assad and Lorde are two artists that mean a lot to me for those reasons. Music production professionals that inspire me include my former professor Colleen Clark and renown producer, Max Martin. The amount of skill that they possess while still remaining humble is really inspiring and I love them for it.
