Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Recently, I licensed one of my instrumental tracks to a music publisher. It will be featured on major Films and Television Networks.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: We are currently finishing mixing a 6 song Rock/Pop EP for an artist which was produced and recorded from scratch here. I am also producing a Pop/R&B album with another artist. Multiple Mixing projects. Also in the recording stage with a Pop Singer/Songwriter. One Electronic (Single) production. A Latin Jazz album with a local artist/saxophonist. And more.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: It will sound good. We don't stop working on it until it does.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I get to work with highly creative and talented individuals doing something we all love.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is your vision for the project?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I would suggest doing some research, and finding out what you are really paying for. Renting a studio with hundreds of buttons, faders, and knobs does not guarantee a great production, recording or mix. A knowledgeable and experienced audio engineer and producer who know how to use all that gear properly and has a developed and trained musical ear is essential.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Probably a 1) computer with Pro Tools or Logic Pro, a 2) Midi Keyboard, 3)Apollo Twin interface, 4) An Acoustic/Electric guitar. 5) Internet?
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been doing this for 10+ years. I started classical training early at the age of 9, I attended a music conservatoire, I studied guitar and composition. I starting taking music theory classes in High School, where I also formed part of an Alternative Rock Band 'Elapsed' ( kind of like Incubus) We recorded 2 EPs, which we produced, recorded, mixed and mastered ourselves. We got sponsored to go on a tour but decided to pursue a college education. I received my AA in Music from Santa Fe College, and my Bachelors in Music from Florida State University. Some of the music education courses I have completed include: Composition, Theory, Orchestration, Production, Engineering, Songwriting, Guitar Performance, Piano Performance, Sight Singing, Ear Training, Counterpoint, and more.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Any artist that is passionate about music
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Yes. When working on a track, I always try to let ideas flow as smooth as possible without getting too technical. You can start by recording some guitar chords and worry about getting the right compression ratio later on.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work on many different types of music. From Pop and R&B, to Rock, Blues, Classical, Electronic, and more.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My ears. I have a trained musical ear. I can listen to a reference mix once and then just recreate it in an original way, always maintaining a balance and working within the framework that I was given.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring the "wow effect" to songs and compositions. For me it's all about the details, whether it's the overall harmonic progression or just a short guitar line that creates tension in a passage of the song. I like to produce music that touches people, that makes the listener want to go back and listen to that track again, and again, and again..
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Most of the projects I work in start with me writing arrangements. I sit down with my clients and get as much information from them about what they want the song to sound like, we have a couple meetings after the creative process begins to make sure we are always in sync. After the instrumental track has been recorded, the client comes in to lay down some vocal tracks, which I then, edit, mix, and master altogether.
