Max Hons on SoundBetter

With 15 years experience and wandering career as an artist (Tenth Electric), Touring Musician (Eckoes), Producer (The Beach + 100s more) and Mix engineer (See Credits); Max has a unique perspective on mixing and mastering as he has experienced the process from all sides. Treating mixing as more art than science.

Mixing and mastering is crucial to getting that awesome sound. Setting the vocals at the right level, making the bass and drums to sit tight on that groove, finding the right reverb. However great your song is, without the right balance and processing you are not going to get a look in.

Starting as a drummer, but progressing to keyboards and guitars in touring bands across Europe, I have the sensitivity of a musician and a desire to get the feeel just right for you. Whats more, if you want to add a part, upgrade a guitar line or want to let me loose to do some additional production, you won't be disappointed.

Why Analogue?

It just sounds great. its like adding thick velvety chocolate sauce on top of the cake you've made. My equipment?

UAD A/D
A matched stereo pair of API 550b EQs (think Airy Highs and Pumping lows)
SSL 500series Bus Compressor (think smoothing over the each track like making shapes in mash potato)
Focusrite 430mkii Vocal Strip (Once you have a taste of this you'll never go back)
Neve 1073 PreAmps (think adding that "je-ne-sais-qoi")

Why Digital?

Well unfortunately I don't have a 64channel Abbey Road style mixing desk so I have to use Logic. But I also have the best digital plugins from UAD, Waves, Sound toys, and iZotope to really amp things up and get you sounding great.

Services include mastering, mixing, remote additional production.
