Recording/Mixing Engineer

Clint Sprunger on SoundBetter

Hello, I'm Clint and I assist in moving musical visions forward. I've been playing music since I was a kid and have been mixing since 2008. The best music is music that is real and honest.

When recording and/or mixing a record my priority is to understand the artist's vision, come along side them and accomplish it. When recording I like to start with the best possible source and best technique for capturing it. I like mixes to have energy and dynamics that keep a listeners attention. My highest priority throughout the process is to keep the artist's intentions at the forefront of the production as well as make them feel comfortable throughout the process. I am here to assist artists in moving forward and finalizing the art that they have created.

Interview with Clint Sprunger

  1. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  2. A: Mixing and mastering services. I have experience with producing and providing insight to what a song may need or not need and would be open to more work within that service area. I also have experience in recording engineering and greatly enjoy capturing musical moments as they happen.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: I'm here to keep your vision and intent at the forefront of the mix. I can be as involved creatively as much or as little as you would like. I want to ensure that you are happy with the final product and end up with something that you are proud of.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I have been working with audio since 2008 in the live sound environment and continue to practice that skill 1-2 times a week through volunteering at my church. I started mixing in the studio environment in 2009 and majored in audio production in college. From learning the basics/theories I have found that the best way to get better is to continually educate and work in the field.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: Before opening a session I like to hear a demo of the track(s) and understand the vision of the artist and what they want to accomplish. A reference is helpful but thinking that the track will sound just like it is a tall order. I like to start mixing with a clean and organized session file. Knowing where things are and what is what is extremely important. From there I like to get a rough mix going, establish the focal point of the track and then build the other elements to support the focal point.

  9. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  10. A: Hybrid, real knobs and faders provide psychological voodoo "feel" and digital gives organization and easy recall.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I greatly enjoy hearing a bunch of individual tracks work together to create a complete work where each of the tracks play a specific and necessary role.
