Interview with Rommar Productions

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I'm proud of everything that I'm involved in because I give my all no matter what.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I'm actually working on a personal album. Releasing a single called "In The Air" online and radio.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I don't really know anyone on here to be honest. I've been in the shadows improving myself and craft.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both. It all depends on the song and the client. Analog has a sound that's warm and difficult to reproduce. Digital is a lot cleaner and can be done in the box.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I will do my best to bring out the best in what I'm presented. If i feel like you aren't serious about your craft, I won't waste my time...no offense to anyone.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love music and love the fact that I can bring it to a level to create positive memories. Don't want to be the guy that people remember for destroying a great song.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Can you make me sound like a specific artist? No, I can make you sound like the best you that I can. It depends on you and your efforts initially.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That I'll do it for free or for a little bit of nothing...not happening. I'm a fair guy to everyone including myself. If you want me to take you and your craft seriously, please respect me and mine.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What do you want your potential audience to feel when listening to your music? What do you feel should be the focal point of the project? Are you open to suggestions and ideas outside of your own? Have you taken the necessary steps needed to accomplish the wanted emotion for vocals if the project has vocals? Have you used the best sounds tangible to you for the instruments in the project? If not, would you be willing to replace weak sounds to strengthen the project?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Go with your gut. If the connection is their, then I'm your guy.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Laptop, Audio interface, Microphone, headphones, midi controller

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: My career path as to be an independent artist who performs and create original music. Also to own and independent production company where i mix and master music for artists ranging from independent to major one day. I've been writing music and singing on a decent level for 17 years and producing, recording, mixing and mastering for 14 years.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style is a mixture of a soulful, rhythm/bluesy, popish, hip hop, rock feel...it really depends on the way I'm feeling at the moment because I can go anyway as long as I can get the way I feel out. I feel like as an artist I'm open to explore any genre and get my feeling across.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would like to work with Musiq Souldchild, Usher, Chris Brown, Miguel, Maroon 5 along with various other artist. I'm curious to see how creative the session would really be! I believe it would be out of this world.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Always, always, always follow your heart. There is no right or wrong way outside of basic guidelines if you're true to yourself.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Any music that I connect with from any genre, I have the experience to work on.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My strongest skill is appreciating opportunities and creating more opportunities.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring life/meaning to a song. I put my heart and soul into a project so the listener can feel it in his or her souls' as well.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I always start by listening, that's the most critical part. From that point, I begin to diagnose either what works or what I feel takes away from what I'm dealing with. Lastly, I find a solution(s).

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: Right now I have the basic setup which includes an Imac 27inch, macbook pro/air, keyboards, midi boards, drum pads, guitars, jbl speakers, mackie mixer, DP9, logic, reason 8, waves complete bundle and the list goes on....its really not about the name dropping of equipment and software, but what one can achieve with the tools.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I'm inspired by anyone who's true to the craft whether they are "professionals" or not. Anyone who's compassionate about their craft inspires me because one can see, hear and/or feel it in the work.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Anything my clients need as far a production, mixing and mastering, I'm able to deliver.
