I play bass guys and I love it!

Hi, I’m Dominik, a professional bass player based in Vienna, Austria. The last 10 years I was secretly hidden by the wonderful world of theaters. Now, back on the surface, I’m happy to help out with bass lines in the studio or on stage.
I started to play the piano at the age of 9, got my first guitar when I went 14 and played the drums in my first band at the age of 15. This musical experiments have led to study sound engineering in 2003 to get proper recording and mixing skills.
Rather late, after some years of touring across Europe with artists like Guadalajara and Jonas Goldbaum, I discovered my passion for bass guitar. So I’ve started developing my bass skills. 2007 I got my first gig (Gasometer Vienna) with viennese Hip Hop/Funk band Ageh Wirklich?.
I participated in jazz seminars mentored by Achim Tang (bass) and Clemens Wenger (piano). Later I got the chance to win Stephan Kondert as my regular bass teacher.
During my time in New York City in 2015, I was mentored by multiple Grammy Award winner Bob Brockmann, which completely opened my mind in terms of producing and mixing.

Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Retro pop
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That this is not my hobby. It's my job, but I do it with fun.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Don't be shy, just contact me. I don't bite.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Great Red Silence's debut album. I was the co-producer, co-writer, bass player, recording engineer and mixing engineer. You can listen to the first single "4 a.m." on my profile and on youtube.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Definitely analog tracking to catch the warmth and best sound routed into protools. Digital editing and mixing because it's possible these days.

A: I'm gonna work my ass off.

A: What's your budget :) What's your goal?
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've started to play guitar at the age of 14. Tried some years to master the drums and settled down with my favorite instrument, bass guitar. I studied sound engineering and spent a couple of years on the road as a sound guy. It's been 15 years ago since I've started mixing. Now I'm able to work professionally as a musician, producer, mixing guy.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Jamie Lidell and Steve Wonder. Both are inspiring me and my work, musically, technically and personally.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup is a fusion of analogue and digital gear. I mix in protools combined with my neotek mkII console and some outboard preamps, dynamics and eqs.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: As a bass player I'm a big fan of Pino Palladino. He's got this unique sound and technique. As a mixing engineer my influences are Bob Brockmann, Bob Power. I also admire Timbaland's and Dre's work.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The last 2 years I've mixed and produced a lot of indie rock and prog rock records, as well as some pop and hip hop singles. As a bass player I performed on a lot of records, too.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I try to catch the artist's vision and ad some pepper
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I do a lot of Rock, HipHop and Jazz.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Being patient :)
