LB Music on SoundBetter

Self driven, passionate recording/mixing engineer, experienced with various styles of music, specialising in hip hop/EDM. Excellent at bringing the best out of the artist and their music. I am a resolute, dynamic worker with great communication skills and a strong musical background.

I can mix from my home studio, I have mixed many successful songs there, either having online sessions, having the artist round in person or just liaising via email etc. I can record on any location in London that the artist needs me, at my home studio or at a studio in hackney called AStar Music that I have used frequently.
I always bring my absolute attention, creativity and passion to every project I work on.
I have learnt an invaluable amount from legendary record producer Mark Wallace (U2, the Smiths, Marvin Gaye) and also from the very talented producer MAC1 OFFICIAL, whom I still currently mix for. Combining the experience and expertise of these two musical giants I bring a wealth of skills and perspective to each project I work on. I always believe my main job is to further the vision that the artist has for the record and I believe I can always bring out the best sound possible.

Would love to hear from you. Click the contact button above to get in touch.

LB is an absolute joy to work with. He has a great ear for detail and he brought to the table a wealth of creative input, which elevated my music to the next level. He brought out the best in our project and especially my vocals.

I hired Luke last year to work on a couple of tech house tracks. I found him quick to grasp my vision and was impressed with his ability and confidence to take it to the next level, He produces a big, clear and colourful sound and he's a great, really funny guy too - I will most definitely be using him again!

Luke is one of the most talented, thoughtful and hardworking sound engineers I have ever worked with. He possesses a fantastic set of ears and, perhaps even more importantly, really uses that stuff in between them. He is now my 'go-to' recording engineer in London.

I've worked with Luke in various capacities over the past two years. He is incredibly intuitive, a total professional. It is refreshing to work with someone that has both an innovative approach and a total attention to the finer details. I can't recommend him higher.

I recently used Luke’s services as a mix engineer for a track I had produced and I was extremely impressed by his ability to quickly grasp and bring to life my artistic vision. During our session I discovered that Luke is as equally expertly skilled musically as he is technically. He is also extremely personable and immediately puts you at ease.

Interview with LB Music

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: This answer has probably changed for me recently, I would now answer digital, its just so much quicker and with the sounds you can get from plug ins (such as UAD's) clients cannot tell the difference if they were plug ins or the 'real thing' anyway. Analog is awesome but its a luxury.

  3. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  4. A: I worked with a christian church band called C3, recorded and mixed their song "So Hear", it was very challenging but we were all very happy with the final outcome.

  5. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  6. A: I have just finished mixing for the composer Idris Blac, on a alternative trailer to Assassins Creed Syndicate. Was great fun and sounds epic.

  7. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  8. A: Unfortunately no, not yet.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: They and their song have my undivided attention, heart and soul. I will always listen to them, its not about me its about them and their music, I am here to serve and serve very well.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: No two projects are ever the same, always keeps me on my toes and forces me to think outside the box. And I love being around crazy artists' of course.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Aside from rates an all that its usually "what do you think of the song?" to which I give my honest (and of course kind) opinion. Another one is "Do I get a second mix?" the answer to this is simple as I charge an hourly rate it includes any further mixes/adjustments that the client wants.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Make something that sounds poor great, if its recorded badly its only ever going to sound average. Get it right in the first place! (use me as the recording engineer also).

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Who's your inspiration? What do you expect to receive at the end of this project?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: If you can, get to know the person, they may have an awesome resume but without connecting with them you could end up with a confused product that doesn't sound like yours at all,

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Does a laptop count? That and any apollo interface, a Neve 1073 pre amp, Neumann u87 Mic and lastly a portable mains power pack!

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I got into this through studying audio production at SAE Institute, just spending my days in the studio (and nights too). I've only been doing this for two years but it feels like a lot longer I have learnt and experienced so much.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: As a sound engineer I wouldn't say this question is applicable, I'm here to serve the artist, help bring out the best sound possible and be creative!

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Very hard to list just one! I would probably say Labrinth, he's just so creative it seems like it would be such a pleasure to work with him.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Be decisive in your decision making.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: A variety of Hip-hop and EDM (quite broad I know).

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Interpersonal skills! I know most people will probably put something technical here but I believe it is the ability to get alongside a person/artist really well, enjoy each others company that truly come out on a record.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Above all skills/tricks my passion always comes across in every song I mix. I make sure I put my heart and soul into it, I try to get inside the artists head and it is only then that they will be truly happy with the final product. I am very creative, I always have a alternate perspective and like to do things a little differently.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: For Mixing; I like to just get a good feel for the song at first, note down my first impressions; what I like, what could be improved. My mix template has already done most of the 'dirty work' for me but I always make sure I get the nitty gritty stuff done first. Then I have all the time and space to get creative with the mix.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: In terms of Software Im all in the box, love the UAD plug ins, the sounds they can produce are astounding. I mix on the Focal Alpha speakers with a second pair of Yamaha's so old I can't see their model anymore! But they're awesome!

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: The record Producer Tony Maserati. Any record he is on has got such an incredible feel to it, his mixes are what I aspire too.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Mixing, this can vary from just problem fixing in a particular area or two or a full on creative mix.
