AUDIOCONFUSION on SoundBetter

INSTAGRAM: dad, husband, owner and head engineer of audioconfusion creative recording space I've been recording for over 20 years and dabbling with audio in general for even longer. I like "real" sounds. No over processing here.

Audioconfusion has been running strong in the valley since '97.

HERE ARE SOME KIND WORDS:
There are few Arizona studios with a loyal following like Audioconfusion and even less producers like Jalipaz. Known to generations of artists as a musical godfather and mentor, he unflinchingly captures the magic behind the soundboard at Audioconfusion. There aren't any one-size-fits-all gated reverbs or cookie cutter compression effects here. Every recording session is authentic and real. Where some studios bank on delivering a “signature sound,” Audioconfusion is based upon the premise of genuine musicality backed by a strong work ethic. Every recording session and album are unique productions where the artist's character can shine through. The results are honest, raw, and brilliant – just like the first album you fell in love with. ~ Jonathan Cisneros

Interview with AUDIOCONFUSION

  1. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  2. A: I typically record music with an edge to it but I have done, and am comfortable working with, any type of music. I dont play an instrument but if I was in noise bands and create soundscapes :)

  3. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  4. A: I've always been attracted to audio and have always heard music differently than most people. I've been recording for over 20 years and still get excited about every session!

  5. Q: What's your typical work process?

  6. A: I tend to record bands live but I can record anyway that is comfortable for you.

  7. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  8. A: Right now I have 3 albums that are coming out in the next couple months and have started mixing and recording a bunch of others.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: Everything! I love working with artists because we share the same passion. I also hear at least one thing that is totally original come from every artist I work with, and thats super exciting!

  11. Q: How would you describe your style?

  12. A: Natural. I don't over process anything. I like to let the music speak for itself but I also understand that the right production can really make a song pop.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: I would say my strongest skill is making a recording that sounds like that band and not my own perception of that band.

  15. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  16. A: That I will do everything I can to make you happy with your product. Sounds cheesy but, if you're not happy then Im not happy, and thats the truth.

  18. A: Make sure whoever you hire that your comfortable with them and they understand your goals.

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: A fresh outlook

  25. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  26. A: I designed my studio so I could keep my prices low and still offer an awesome finished product. The studio was designed from the ground up. It consists of a large live room where bands can record, a room for organic reverb and a separate control room.

  27. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  28. A: My main influences are Steve Albini (pixies, nirvana), Dave Fridmann (the flaming lips, mgmt) and George Martin (the beatles)

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  30. A: I mostly record and mix bands.
