E.J. Oropza, better known to some as EJ, is an independent audio engineer, producer, and musician in the Seattle area. He built the Darklab Studio both as a vehicle for his own musical projects as well as to offer end-to-end audio services for local bands, producers, songwriters, and to media companies all over the world. He specializes in Live Sound, Remote Mixing, and Mastering services. He holds three Music Technology degrees (Digital Audio Engineering, MIDI Computer Technology, Music Merchandising), in addition to his credentials in music theory and classical guitar, leveraging this experience against his entrepreneurial leanings in order to launch several businesses, including a equipment rental and smaller event production company. He is also a founding member of several Seattle-based musical groups, including metal bands Somnae (current), Ashcloud, Human Error 2.0, Sea of Nectar (past), and Spellforest (past) as well as the dark ambient/experimental project Dolens Aegrus, for all of whom he has written, produced, and engineered their respective audio properties. Some of the artists he has done work for include Ty Barnett (comedian), Ayreon Jones, Two Step Flow, The Roscoes Wild Child, Defragment, and Tidelines, among others. He went on to intern for internationally renowned producer Martin Feveyear at his iconic Jupiter Studios, helping to run the studio as as intern.
