Interview with Alex Doyle

  1. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  2. A: Musicman, laptop, speakers, Kemper and my picks. I could record an album with this.

  3. Q: How would you describe your style?

  4. A: Imagine a heavier blues style of Joe Bonamassa mixed in with the fast, creative lines of Petrucci and co with the taste and melodic riffs of Jerry Cantrell. Well, it's a big ask but that's what I'm striving for :)

  5. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  6. A: Taylor Larson. His mixes stand out in a sterile metal field. He manages to sound heavy and organic and brings music to life.

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: Genuinity

  9. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  10. A: Guitar work, mixing.

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: Mac based with Adam A7X monitoring system. Logic X with a variety of professional studio plugins and instruments. Kemper profiler, various guitar pedals and effects. A collection of high end guitars from Fender, Gibson, Musicman and Ibanez in a variety of turnings.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: Most of the rock and metal styles you can think of

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: You cannot fix a bad source. To play better is to sound better

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: Guitarists: John Petrucci, Doug Rappoport, Jerry Cantrell, Wes Hauch, Brent Hinds... Bands: Dream Theater, Alice in Chains, Periphery, Lamb of God, Zappa, Steely Dan... Producers: Joe Barresi, Taylor Larson
