Gui Kikuchi on SoundBetter

I'm Gui Kikuchi, mixing engineer, singer/songwriter, sound designer. Key Skills: - Mixing and Mastering, - Synth programmer - Session guitarrist - Singer / song writer - Arranging - Pro Tools, Logic and Ableton,

Available for Music Production and Composition, Editing, Arrangements, Mixing, Mastering, Audio File Converting, Music Reinterpretations and Remakes, Sound Designing.

When working with music one should have acquired enough knowledge in lots of different areas. That's were I come in. Having played piano since a young age and played in over 10 bands from pop to metal as guitarist and singer I have plenty of experience in what the music should sound like.

I will always do my best, and my best will always get better over time.
What matters the most is the clients taste and I will do whatever it takes to get there.

The description of Gui Kikuchi profile does justice to his work. Great musician, singer/songwriter and great mixing engineer, as well. I've had the pleasure to work with him in a project named Nelsons Trap. He mixed our songs and participated, also, as instrumental composer. Look forward to work with him again.

Gui kikuchi is a very professional guy. I worked with him on three occasions
2012 we release our single NELSONS TRAP - SHOW ME HOW YOU FOUND THE WAY
2013/2014 with our records NELSONSTRAP - FAST AND FORWARD
2014/2015 my other band OUTSIDERS CRAMP, (not release)
He participated as a mixing engineer and chords composer. He's a complete musician.

Gui Kikuchi did a great job! He is an expert and also an easygoing dude. Each song detail appeared clearly, and Gui proved to be a guy in tune with what's modern, nailing in every aspects of our song. Can´t wait to work with him again.

Gui Kikuchi was flexible to how I wanted to sound. Had a lot of patience recording my vocals, coaching and comping. The music turned out just the way I wanted. Definety going to work with him again.

Interview with Gui Kikuchi

  1. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  2. A: Sometimes the client wants a mix of 2 or more references that just don't work together.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Mixing for other studios.

  5. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  6. A: Locosession is the project I'm proud of. I did everything from start to finish. All vocals, synths, guitars, etc... Mixing and mastering

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: I'll always be flexible to the clients taste. I'll make my best, and my best will always get better over time.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: Working in a creative environment but being methodical at the same time.

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: Started playing in bands and then moved on to the studio as quickly as I realised everyone's sound sucked. So I needed to do something about it. It's been 8 years.

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: Fast but careful and methodical. I always put the interpretation in first place and that's why I edit and correct a lot before start mixing.

  15. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  16. A: Symphony X because I always loved their music and Calvin Harris because his music are near perfect products.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: I'd say it's editing timing and tuning vocals to sound right but still natural.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: MacPro 2x2.26 KRK Monitors VXT 8 Pro Tools 10 / 11/ 12 Ableton Live 10 Logic X A whole lot of plugins

  21. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  22. A: Digital with a little touch of analog. There are plenty of ways to sound as good as analog (UAD, Slate Digital, Brainworks...) and it's reversible and easy to make alterations. But sometimes there is nothing like warming up the signal in an old pre valve pre amp.

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: Good taste and a flat response so it sounds better in more sound systems.

  25. Q: What's your typical work process?

  26. A: Listen to the artists concerns and reference. Fix whats to be fixed by editing, then mix and master. In the mix process first set the volumes right and start the cleaning.

  27. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  28. A: Q: How long is it gonna take to mix the entire cd? A: Dependes on how much correction and editing I will have to apply and if the songs were recorded with the same setup. It will always be faster if the setup is the same and there is little correction. And there is always going to be adjusts and sometimes total makeover of a song or two if the client desires.

  29. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  30. A: Be specific. Have an idea of how your music should sound. Analise the raw material to see if its close to your reference.

  31. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  32. A: KRK VXT 8 - Because I'm pretty much now how it responds. Mac Pro - Power will always be power. Seinheiser HD650 Headphones. Always good when listening close to the details. I think I just need these 3

  33. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  34. A: Attention to detail. When you think it sounds perfect you are probably wrong and it's time to take a break.

  35. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  36. A: Mostly electronic, pop and rock

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: Depends on the style. I'm pretty eclectic and listen to everything from Rock/ Heavy Metal to Pop and EDM

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: Mixing, Mastering, recording Guitar, Keyboards and Vocals.
