Chris Goodwin. Owner of The Lab Studio. I specialize in recording, mixing and mastering. I exclusively work on hip hop and r&b & dancehall. I have 20 years of music experience. I started as a DJ. Moved to writing and producing. I have been mixing exclusively for the past 6 years. I work completely in the box. My specialty is hip hop.

Christopher Goodwin. OWNER of B.R.L. MUSIC GROUP & THE LAB STUDIO. I got off into Producing, writing, mixing and recording at an early age. As time went on i had to pivot and now i strictly do mixing and some mastering. I slowly veered away from being an all around emcee, producer and engineer. I began to focus more on the recording, mixing and mastering of the music we call HIP HOP.
I currently run Pro Tools 12.4 on Windows 10, Intel i7, 8 core processor. 12 gig ram and dual ssd drives. My plugin locker consists of Waves, Soundtoys, Metric Halo, Slate Digital, Tokyo Dawn and many more. Yamaha HS80m monitors. B.L.U.E mics. I mix in the box, though i did start in the analog days. My studio is purpose built in my home strictly for mixing. That’s all i do is mixing. So you will have my undivided attention to detail and the mix.I currently only work in the HIP HOP/RAP genre. As that genre of music is one of my greatest inspirations and passions. Therefore i like to work on hip hop because it brings out the best in me during the recording and mixing process. I am going after a certain sound. A more rugged and natural sound.
I am a strong believer in the emcee/artist and his/her ability to bring out the best in a track. I take pride in my work and i will help you get the sound you are looking for. I enjoy working on projects from start to finish.

Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Try to add as much emotion to the song as possible. Fans need to feel the music.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: HIP HOP/RAP. Some R&B/Spoken word. Dancehall.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is being able to mix emotion into the song. Being able to identify your strengths and the strengths of the song and bring those to the forefront of the song. Give you that tingly feeling down your spine when you listen to the song.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a certain level of understanding about hip hop/rap and what it's supposed to sound like. I bring emotion to the song.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: The process is different depending on how the instrumental is given to me. If its a fully tracked out beat, i will start with a little gain staging to get the levels in a nice range. Then i will hop right into working on the drums. As with any hip hop song, the drums set the tone for the song. Then i move to the bass line and music parts of the song. I leave the vocals for last in the mixing process. If i have a 2-track beat to work with i will start with gain staging the beat down to a nice level, maybe a little eq'ing of said beat to get a nice balance and then i will move right into the vocals of the track.
