Interview with Snejk Pliskin

  1. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  2. A: Sure, I'll do it when I take some tome to listen and pick my favorites

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Both

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: If I like your work (and I think it's important to like someone's work, otherwise let someone else take the job) I will do my best to improve it.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: Creativity, we all have the same tools but results are completely different from person to person

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: That mix isn't really important. Good mix isn't all about being technically correct but to get excitment, energy and dynamic out of it and THAT IS important for the potential listener.

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: Are you satisfied with your and others effort? Mix ain't gonna fix the flaws in singing or any crucial performance in track.

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: Just do your best at the given moment. I know it sounds cheesy but that's the only way to get to the top.

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: To be one of the best mixer in business. 20+ years

  17. Q: How would you describe your style?

  18. A: Dynamic with my own "character" to the sound. I hate defaults in art.

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: Creative, humble and passionate. RHCP :)

  21. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  22. A: Go with your gut

  23. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  24. A: I think that my personal taste in what I want to get in mix is what artist mostly desire. More than 50% of the time I don't need to do revisions of mix. So maybe that's my strongest skill.

  25. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  26. A: I mix and edit mostly in Presonus Studio One or in Pro Tools, some custom passive KRK (first series monitors), JBL LSR 305, Sennheiser HD650, Alesis MK2 (garbage) and other speakers which I've listened for many years and I'm accustomed to.

  27. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  28. A: Bob Clearmountain, Chris Lord-Alge, Manny Marroquin, Serban Ghenea etc...

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  30. A: used to be recording engineer and producer, but nowadays I do mostly freelance mixing and some mastering. Mastering is not something which I recommend to be done by mixing engineer, but anyway I try to do my best if clients needs both mastering and mixing.

  31. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  32. A: many singles, albums, as always.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: life and joy! :)))

  35. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  36. A: pop, rock, electro, house etc.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: 3 days for mix. First day for rough mix, second for automatization and doing some fine stuff. Third day for completing.

  39. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  40. A: I've done a lot of big projects but none of them I'm especially proud 'cause I want to improve myself but I'm thankful for the opportunity to work with some of the best world's gear and outboard just to learn that everything is in ear, not gear :)
